I agree, looks like a rooster has been getting her too much! You can buy apron looking things to protect her or separate your roosters for a while to give your hens a break.
if anyone could help me figure out what is going on with this chick I'd really appreciate it... I've had chickens for 7 years now and have never seen this! My neighbor found this chick running around on her property, it very well could have been one of mine since I had a few hens sitting on eggs...
Hi! Thanx for your response! Good to know!!! Thank you!! I'm so used to them hatching right on day 21 under mommy hen! So, to answer the 2 questions...
I opened the coop in the morning and she ran out like normal... She always returns within 15-20 minutes. I noticed it had been a couple hours...
Hi, I stuck some bantam eggs under my broody silkie 2.5 weeks ago... She had been broody for atleast 2 weeks before. I'm in California and it's been great weather but we got a rainy cold day and she ditched her eggs at day 18:-( I found them cold and stuck them in my bator... Anyone know the...
I have a broody hen as well (Skittle). I have been working with her for three weeks now and nothing seems to break her of this broodiness! I even separated her out of the coop into her own hutch with a wire bottom in hopes that she would be forced out of it. She didn't care, she just crouched...
Last week the chickens looked like their legs were broken and the wings flopped. When I would try and prop them upright, they would fall over:( The legs were out sideways or out behind or sprawled out infront, toes all curled up with no movement at all. It was horrible and they were pooping all...
I posted concerns about my chickens health last week. Two of my chickens have Mareks(I think) but I gave them Hypericum for a week now and they are completely back to normal! They were paralyzed and even their wings were affected. Now you would never even know they were like that. All symptoms...
Well, my kids will be thrilled but my husband will probably make me take them back. The guy that sold them to me said he would take any cockerels back if we did not want them. Are you familiar with Mareks disease at all? I can post a new question in the disease section I guess:)
They are Rhode Island Reds I was told. Yikes....I think I might have 2 cockerels then! Only one has hardly a comb at all and much smaller in size than the other 2.
I have 3 chickens that I got as itty bitty chicks. I think they are about 3 months old now. I want to know how I can tell if I possibly got a rooster out of the three:-) Will I be able to way to be able to tell this young? Also- I posted concerns about my chickens health last week in the...
Thanks so much for replying to me. You mentioned the vaccine... So~ I should now vaccinate all my other chickens?? Will I be able to get more baby chicks eventually? This totally sucks! I love these two little ones!!!!! They get excited when they see me and I don't know how I'm going to tell...
My two chickens are completely paralyzed and I do not know what to do with them. I do not have the heart to kill them but I can not spend all my time hand feeding and watering these chickens... I have read a ton about Mareks and I'm almost positive they have it. I am new with raising chickens...
I started giving my chickens the hypericum last night. I have not seen any change yet but I am going to keep trying... If this does not work- Do I need to get rid of them? Will they eventually die on their own? I have 3 other adult chickens and also another baby that was with my two sick ones...
