    Coop movers in New England?

My husband and I are moving in about 3 months and need our 4x8 coop moved about 8 miles. I am having a heck of a time getting someone that can do this. Its going to need a forklift to get it to the front yard. Can't fit a flat bed in the back due to neighbor's fence. Any suggestions?

Today is Day 17 for my broody....i need to move her!

I waited to long to set up the broody enclosure and now that its set up, I need to move her and 3 eggs. I plan on doing this at night. I've set up the broody area to be as dark as possible in the nest box. Anything else I need to be aware of. I don't want to break her broodiness? Her current...

Will Hens Willingly Eat Oyster Shell Separately?

I keep my oyster shells in a small bowl near the feeder on a cinder block. The little buggers tip it over at least once a week. If you put the shells out, make sure its in a large bowl that they can't tip over!

    Poopy smelling eggs

Well thats the odd thing. The shells are nice and thick and they've had oyster shell for at least 2 weeks ( I set them up with proper food, water and oyster shells a week before I took them home) Could it be that she is old and this is why her eggs smell? Its just such an odd thing.

    Poopy smelling eggs

I rescued 3 seven-year-old hens. One isn't laying any longer, and two (a RIR and unknown Black & Red) lay one egg daily. The two that lay, their eggs are distinctly different in shape. So, the RIR is laying the poopy smelling eggs, I think. I wash the eggs just before using them and noted...

Can a 6 month old chicken become broody?

My Golden Sebright was about 10 months old when she STARTED laying, only laid 5 eggs and went broody. And she goes broody CONSTANTLY with her gal-pal, a GLC. Its so funny to see the two of them in the same nest box together. I peek my head in and they get all screechy and...

How do I stop my constant broodies!

I have a bantam GLC and a bantam Golden Sebright. the Cochin is just about a year old and the Sebright is about 17 months old. For the past 4-5 months, these 2 nut cases go broody together for weeks on end. Its just about ridiculous and they are my only hens of laying age. The rest of my...

7 year old Barred Rock Hen, just adopted her!

Well, after 24 hours with me, our old gal seems to be doing well. The bald patches that were bright red are now a mild pink. So it seems that our feather picker is finding other things to satisfy her. They have been out free ranging all day eating bugs and grass and napping in the shade...

7 year old Barred Rock Hen, just adopted her!

I thought I should add this...We went off to see the local fireworks and the whole time I was afraid the girls wouldn't go in their coop for the night...well they didn't! The 3 of them were perched on the overhang in their run. It was so cute! They were in their sleep coma state and were very...

7 year old Barred Rock Hen, just adopted her!

Thanks for the advice! I figured its like when a starved person is finally fed, you have to start with small meals so as to not shock the digestive system. I haven't quite added the poly vi sol the water yet. So, so far they've had the layer feed...I did start them on this a week ago when I...

7 year old Barred Rock Hen, just adopted her!

So, I adopted 3 hens from one of my clients. I am a pet sitter. He is losing his home and while caring for his dog, Sam, I noticed the hens were in dire need of just about everything. The coop was just an utter disaster. They were laying their eggs on a poop-covered floor, flies were...

Can one duck live with 7 bantams hens?

I am considering adding a single duck to my flock. My daughter insists that she be accompanied by a chicken while in her kiddie pool. So, needless to say, I have rescued my hens on many occasions! To solve this constant life guarding, I thought it would be easier to just get the kid a darned...

    My SEBRIGHT is broody AGAIN....Seriously???

Oh, for the love of god! Every SIX WEEKS! I hope she doesn't do that. Its bad enough she and her golden laced cochin pal, Panic, are sitting in the same nest box. I tossed them out the chicken door twice today. They are a mess!

    My SEBRIGHT is broody AGAIN....Seriously???

I have a 14 month old Sebright hen. She is going broody for the second time since January. I can't figure her out. Aren't Sebrights supposed to be flaky, non-broody, terrible mothers? She is in the same nest box as my broody cochin hen. This should be fun!
