How are we defining " Good with the girls"? What about style of mating. We were watching the Rooster the other day as we were introducing a new hen. He was so nice as first. I think he was being tricky. He acted like he had something to eat when she walked over to check it out he grabed her by...
I did a 50 x 75 ft section of our back yard. We used metal wire that was meant for electric fencing. It comes on a roll. I would cut half a dozen pieces 6 or so inches long. Then sit myself down and make a long hook in the wire, push it through the hardware holes around a link in the fencing and...
Update on impacted Crop ~
I could not get the syring in her mouth. So I gave her Blended fresh Tomato with olive oil, and Massaged crop. It seamed to go down a little bit but not to " normal"? I am going to put her on soft food for a couple days , try oil and massage and see ahta happens. It...
I just got new birds and they are sick. I think I will need to cull all four. Two are showing symptums runny nose sneezing other two had been in with them for 1 week. Did not notice discharge when I got birds.Of course neither person says that they have any sick birds. They have been issolated...
I am going to keep her in cat carrier tonight and put water in for her. I want to see if it goes down in morning. If it is still therw what sould I do?
So don't really know what snot should smell like. It does have a smell, I didn't gag. A little bit of gapping breathing, but if you nose is plugged what are you spose to do? I am going to keep watching them. going to seperate them from other new chickens tonight to see what the eat and poo like...
Learning as I go here. Notice a bulge on chickens chest. Wow what could that be? Well it looks like it could be an impacted crop from what I have seen here. Another segregation when I get home. Can't see all the post right now on this topic. Please list successes with his issue. I will feel...
Did we every figure out what was wrong with her? From beging of thread my chicken symptoms sound similar.
Did you give any treatment? I might have missed it. Many, Many , words.
I will smell then tonight. I looked up Coryza it said a few other things to look for in infected birds. I did not notice any swelling or for them being off feed . Actually they are egger and vigorus.
If it is not Coryza, am I going to be able to add to flock after insolation period of at least a...
I got 4 birds last weekend (2 Cochin Bantams from 1 place, 2 Dorkings from another). Last night I notice something on one of the Dorkings beak. Well it was crusted up snot on nostril. These birds are isolated from my original flock (2 Delwares). So I cleaned off the nostrils of the Dorkings with...
Leave it to a Dorking. They are the best bird. I just pick up 2 hens on Sunday.
I can't wait till they go broody and hatch me some chicks.
Going to read everybodys post so I can get all the info I need for my girls. Keep the info coming:clap
It is a shame that the " broody" trait has been breed out of most breeds.
I question myself in wanting to reproduce a breed ( Delaware) that does not really want to follow through with the reproduction process. One of the reasons I am getting involved in chickens is to be more self sufficient...
This is a double ended question. I am planning on picking up acouple Cochin Bantams to use for broodies for my Delawares
Did I make the right choice?
Should I have picked a differant breed?
What has been most sucessfull for you all?
If you are going to use 1/2 hardware cloth expensive but worth it,
the cheapest place I found was Grainger. Find a used dog kennel for the pannels and use hardwire on the bottom half.
Wow.. sounds like one heck of a chicken party. I wish you guys where not so far away. Will anybody have Delaware ? . I am looking for a few more girls.
