Thanks, Terri. I don't mind having a hen that isn't laying, mainly because she's one of my first birds and I don't have the heart to cull her. I figured if she was up and happy then I shouldn't worry too much. I'll just keel an eye on her. If anyone else has any ideas or
suggestions I'd be happy...
This isn't an emegency, I don't think, but I've got a hen with some issues that I need suggestions about. She's a two year old silver-laced wyondotte. She seems perfectly happy and still eats, peck and runs around the yard like normal. However, she's been missing the feathers on her bottom...
Hi Kathy! Long time since we talked. All is well here. I still have the four girls I kept from your eggs I hatched. My friend that took the other six girls is thoroughly enjoying them! Do you remember Twitter, the hen that was scalped by the older birds at 4 weeks old? Well, she's still...
Thanks, everyone. I really didn't know hens could live that long. I automatically assumed the new rooster had killed her, but there just wasn't a mark on her. I don't know how a rooster could kill a full-grown bird without leaving a mark.
Unfortunately, we are on an island and there isn't...
This morning I found one of my hens dead in the coop. She was only 1 1/2 years old. A black australorp. We just got a new rooster yesterday and at first I thought maybe he had killed her, but there were no signs of damage. No blood, no scratches, no missing feathers. I couldn't find any...
Yeah, my ducks layed soft shelled eggs a lot when they started laying and then when they weren't getting enough oyster shell. I still have a chicken that does the same, although I don't know which one it is. I think she must not like the oyster shell because they have plenty.
I've been married for 13 years next month. It was good to start with and we have a beautiful 9 year old daughter, but I was too young when we got married (24). I am not the same person I was. I've since figured out who I am and the life I want and it doesn't always mesh with being married...
The only thing I would caution you on is to check the wiring over and over again. I worked in insurance a lot of years and wiring fires in mobiles are deadly. They go up like kindling - especially the older ones. If the landlord is willing to fix any wiring problems or let you fix them, then...
I don't think you can call yourself a chicken owner if you haven't broken an egg in your pocket. That "pop" is kind of a sickening sound though, isn't it?
They are both beautiful. Take care of Ling Ling. I lost all three of my duckies this summer - one to an eagle and the other two to a land otter. I miss them so much!
Thanks to both of you. We have searched the yard and surrounding areas as thoroughly as we can. It wouldn't be hard to miss her though. We have incredibly dense undergrowth and shrubbery. We'll keep our eyes open though.
The good news is that we don't have near as many predators as those of...
My little blue swede hen has gone missing. We let them free range during the day and then put them in the coop at night. With our long days, they've (I have 2 hens) been staying out later and later, with us just having to give up and let them stay out a couple nights. Well, two nights ago...
