We just got some chicks and this one is supposed to be an Ameraucana? It doesn't look like the last ones we had but maybe it's the color. I wonder if they mixed it up at the store since they are housed with two breeds.
We have had chickens a few times but it's been awhile and we haven't ever hatched them. Today is day ten. I've looked at hundreds of pictures and I still feel totally unsure of anything. Some were obviously empty but the rest are confusing. I feel like none of them look the same. Can someone...
I have a broody silkie and we decided to let her try to hatch some eggs. She sat on them from the time there was one egg constantly so will the eggs hatch on different days? Will she keep sitting on them once one hatches?
Any ideas? I know they are not great pictures I can't seem to get them to hold still.
They are three months. I want to say the splash and white one are roos but I don't know.
My four and five year old love our chicks way too much. Everytime I go outside my kids have them on the swings or going down the slide. I just went out and my daughter was trying to help one have a dirt bath. I can't believe how tolerant silkies are. I can almost hear our adult chicken sigh...
She has been broody for over a year. If there are eggs she usually sits on them until we throw her off. She has never raised chicks. The chicks are three days.
We just got 17 silkie chicks and have them in the brooder. We are waiting to get rid of some when we find out if they are hens or roos. We have one silkie hen that is broody and I was wondering if we should let her take care of some of the chicks? If we should how many should we give her and how...
We have raised chicks twice with great success but I am worried this time because it is so warm. The other times we left the chicks in a pool with lights and stuff in the garage to keep them warm. This time our garage is over 100 degrees so I think it is too warm.can I put them right in the coop...
This is our first attempt at hatching eggs and I think we are totally messing it up. We have a broody silkie and someone asked us if we wanted some fertilized eggs. We should have said no because we weren't ready yet. We put them in a big bunny cage and put the silkie in with them. I let her out...
Two weeks ago I bought three silkies and three frizzles from IFA. The silkies all died fast. Today I bought more and they told me the last batch had all had bacterial infections in the eggs. They said the frizzles were infected too. They seem to be doing fine though. MY question is do I put my...
We got some silkies three days ago and they are just dropping over. We haven't ever had a chick die before so I am not sure what we could be doing wrong. All of the other breeds seem fine. Any ideas?
