missing neck feathers on several chickens

Just wanted to bump this thread up. Just walked outside and noticed feathers missing on the front of a few of my hens' necks. Did anyone ever find out the issue? I will say that surely it's not a coincidence that I'm seeing this problem the exact month a couple of you have experienced it. I'd...

Is there a way to splint this baby chick's crocked leg? *see pic

::UPDATE:: Thanks CHOOKS4LIFE for all your help and support. The chick DID make a recovery, much to my surprise. It's not a full recovery (see lower pic, leg still sits behind sometimes), be he can walk around, fly, eat, drink, and play with the other chicks like there's no issue! Pretty sure...

Is there a way to splint this baby chick's crocked leg? *see pic

Thanks so much! Could you possibly find a pick of a splint that would help rotate the leg? I can't think of a design that would help.

Is there a way to splint this baby chick's crocked leg? *see pic

Thanks again! Your advice is very helpful. I'm fine with taking a good amount of time to see if we can give this little guy a full and healthy life. We (my wife and I) nursed a chicken back to health from a nasty dog attack, so we're up for the challenge. I put the chick in a bandaid...

Is there a way to splint this baby chick's crocked leg? *see pic

Thanks for the advice! Yes, it was definitely born that way. I noticed it couldn't stand up in the incubator and that the leg was "stuck" behind her (if it's a pullet). She can't stand, but she can waddle around where she needs to. Yesterday I kept picking her up and putting her leg underneath...

Is there a way to splint this baby chick's crocked leg? *see pic

Hello my chicken friends! Need your help again. I just hatched 5 blue ameraucanas and the last one to hatch seems to have some sort of crooked leg. I've seen people splint splayed legs and crooked toes, but not something like this. Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Chickens in Zambia

Thanks for the info Ridgerunner! Thankfully, my situation seems to be a lot different than the one you subscribed. I also spent sometime in Nigeria and, no offense to any Nigerians, most of the Zambians I've met have been much more trusting and friendly than my interactions in Nigeria. We are...

    Chickens in Zambia

Hello all! I'm writing from Lusaka, Zambia where I am doing some work for 3 weeks at a center that educates women and teaches them to sue. One of the projects I'm working on is a building a chicken coop and teaching the caretaker the basics of raising chickens, which I am very excited about...

    Chickens becoming night owls...

Here's my coop. So it's not because they don't have a nice home! Lol.

    Chickens becoming night owls...

So I have 5 backyard chickens. They are 6 months old. I let them out of the coop in the morning and they roam my backyard all day and head back into there coop at dusk... or that's what they used to do at least. For the past few of weeks they've been waiting longer and longer to head back to...

What is this?!? Found in coop.

So I was cleaning chicken poo out of the coop today. The floor of the coop is a mixture of sand and Sweet PDZ. As I was raking the poo towards the middle to scoop out I noticed these slinky looking strains of something. They were clumped together and I knew it wasn't chicken poo. I pulled...

    Are cracked eggs edible?

So my EE laid her first egg today! She scratched all the pine shaving out of the nesting box, which I think resulted in this slight cracking on the top of the egg. I've since changed the bedding to a mixture of pine straw and shavings. Hopefully that will help. My question though, does all...

    Chicken fleas vs dog fleas

Thanks so much! That definitely makes me feel better. I wouldn't doubt if they are car fleas. Are neighbors feed a bunch of strays and I doubt they give them flea meds. Any way to tell cat fleas from dog fleas?

    Chicken fleas vs dog fleas

I've searched the Internet and this blog, but can't seem to find a clear answer... Are chicken fleas and dog fleas the same thing? My dog, who never has fleas, has been getting them from the backyard where the chicken roam. So I'm wondering if my chickens are being bothered by the fleas...
