I have a chicken that was hatched with wry neck at the end of april 2017. She is not getting worse but not getting better either. Someone else mentioned polyvisol which I think helped my chick get to a better point. I read somewhere that using polyvisol with vit E and selenium does not help...
I have a Heihei named after Moana's. She is a Welsummer. I hatched her from an egg. She was the last to hatch and has had a kinked neck since day 2 (maybe before but I didn't notice).
Her best/only friend is Wilson a rubber ducky gifted to her by my niece, who I 1st saw Moana with.
If you...
Update: HeiHei (Born 04/23 wry neck spotted on 24th) still has a twisted neck, but she is big and strong. None-the-less her feathering is still not quite right. Outwardly she appears fully feathered, but when she spreads her wings she still has quite a bit of pin feathers that have not...
Having welsummer and speckled sussexes I've noticed a u like pattern on sussexes back and more like an 11 on the welsummer, also the eyeliner is more defined on sussexes than the welsummer even than on welsummer gals
Hey Gilley and DK;
Wondering how things are going for you guys. I'd say my gal has become more full of life and grown a bit. Her feathering patterns are more even and normal then before (though still not quite right). I did add polyvisol and tumeric to her diet and also a little plastic yellow...
okay here is a pic from earlier today, still not feathering right but better than it was...plus,
like I said, she is way more active.
Also, Marie thanks for the links I have read both numerous times. I decided to start posting my Welsummer's state because I did not see where anyone else...
So she is more active than ever, and is about 3.5 weeks old with what appears to be a permanent crook in her neck. She is starting to feather in, though far behind her siblings. Ill try to attach a video.
She's been on chick vitamin e mixed with water plus a few drops of human vit e mixed in...
How are the chicks doing? Did you consider coccidiosis? I do not feel like the heat lamp was overkill, as long as the chicks had an area away from the lamp. Also, from all of my readings, if you are going to do a heat lamp, the red one is the most responsible one to go with. Another thought...
I think vaccinations are good, and they are probably worth it. None-the-less I do not vaccinate either. I am not even sure how to get what you should get to vaccinate them, and if a needle is involved forget about it! I know a few local breeders in the area advertise that they vaccinate...
With some types of chicken "issues" they have them for life. Stronger chickens can live long natural lives and be carriers; while others will exhibit signs immediately. Some chickens do not fall ill until they hit stressful times such as starting to lay or molting, or even weather changes...
I never heard of ACV poisoning for a chick, but I also have not heard of using the amounts you are using either. I do one tablespoon to a gallon (approx. since I guesstimate more than anything). Here is what I would do, and heads up cause I am not a vet....I would stop the ACV and supplement...
Yes you can use hard boiled yolk instead of scrambled. I think people say scrambled because it is quicker and easier to prepare. I would consider doing a throat swab and sending it to a lab to be sure what you have. I sent my sample to Zoologix, but I am sure other places will do it and may...
I think pasty butt is fairly common. Most of what I have read about it is that adding yogurt seems to really help. My experience has been that a minor case of pasty butt is not a big deal and does not cause lethargy. I don't think it actually warrants isolation either. Baby chicks, well all...
I agree with Wyorp, begin treatment immediately. I found powdered Corid at Tractor supply company. You can call your local feed stores and see if they have it in advance.
I feel like the liquid probably ensures they are getting the proper dosage quicker, but the powder mixed with the water...
