My hen has swollen eyes which are stuck shut. When i get them rather open puss comes out. runny nose and thick mucous in her mouth. I just gave her a half cc of TYLAN 50. What does she have and what else can I do? I brought her in the house and there is Tetracycline water available and chick starter but she is not drinking or eating. When i try to give her the med water she can't breath even with me going down the side of her mouth. HELP! Oh her breathing is noisy and she breaths with her mouth open. Oh can I give her hard boiled egg yolk instead of scrambled?

For sure Quarantine. No where close to the others. I would step the Tylan50 up to 1ml twice a day for several days if its a average size grown chicken. I personally give it to them oral. Vet/rx might help with the congestion some too. Good Luck

thanks, i will increase the Tylon 50 to a cc twice a day. I finally got 3cc ot med water down her. what about the egg? can i use hard boiled yolk instead of scrambled?

I will have to let some that know about this----answer that. I have been raising chickens for over 1/2 a century and have had as many as 1232 at one time and have never feed eggs, scrambles, hardboiled or raw. Nothing against it(except raw), just something I don't do. If I have a chicken that is not eating I make a gravy using a chick feed usually because I usually have some. I put this gravy in a syringe and let them swallow it as I squeeze it into the back of the mouth easy.

Yes you can use hard boiled yolk instead of scrambled. I think people say scrambled because it is quicker and easier to prepare. I would consider doing a throat swab and sending it to a lab to be sure what you have. I sent my sample to Zoologix, but I am sure other places will do it and may be cheaper. If you do go with a throat swab I would consider doing two swabs and having one of your other birds tested too.

Super idea, I'll do that. I finally tied my men's shirt in the front and carried her in a sling. no one to help me so i get inventive. she was only able to swallow a tiny bit but she will do better tomorrow or in a few hours. did tell u i had a solid puss ball come out of her left eye? i had a warm compress on her face and all of a sudden i saw a white spot, upon close inspection something was slightly protruding from her left eye area, i lightly squeezed and worked it out! 1/2 inch long and 1/4 inch wide. Do you think she may get better now. while this has been going on i have chicks hatching :)
