    I have a mama with 4 chicks hatched and 8 eggs left... I really don't want to mess with her, but she's in an upper nesting box, and I'm worried about the babies needing food and water.. Should I move her and chicks and unhatched eggs to a low box? How long before chicks need food and water?

    Mama had 1/12 hatched... And another with half the shell off! It's killing me to not to go out and see what's going on now! So cute! She's such a good Mama! 2 year old buff Wyandotte!

    I have had a Wyandotte hen who would not give up setting... So I finally gave in and let her have 3 eggs. Well we ended up with one chick. (other two no good). In September in Montana!! Brrr After the chick hatched we moved mama and baby into a pen with nesting box inside the chicken house...

    How Long before a fertile egg becomes too fertile

    Oh Good!!! It didn't seem like it should be the beginnings of a chick that fast!! I'm only getting an egg or two a day right now.. so we are able to keep up with them right now. Hopefully by the time I start getting an excess they will be egg laying pro's!! Thanks for the info!

    I am new to raising chickens and harvesting eggs. I have 13 hens (pulletts) and 4 roosters ( for now... 2 are about to go to the soup pot). I believe that I'm going to have plenty of eggs and would like to eventually sell or give away my excess eggs. I am concerned about selling someone eggs...
