    Attempt #2

My daughter candled the eggs yesterday and said all of them(minus the green ones) were looking promising. Sorry there aren't any photos, maybe day 14.

    Crowing at 4 weeks??

I don't personally know much about the breed but I noticed the tag on it's leg did you purchase the chick with that already on or did you put it on? Sometimes hatcheries are asked to sex chicks that are being sent to be sold at feed(or in our case hardware) stores and they do that either by...

    Are my eggs safe?

I would think they would be fine. Hens will not always lay eggs that look exactly the same as they did the day before. As long as the hen isn't taking medicine or is otherwise obviously healthy, the eggs are okay to eat (in my own opinion). My hens will sometimes lay 'speckled' eggs too, I...

    RIR? Pullet or Cockrel?

I'm going to say female, because at 3 months it looks like our own RIR hens. And there doesn't seem to be any prominent hackle feathering or starting of those beetle green tail feathers that are common for the roosters of that breed. It also doesn't seem to have a roosters 'saddle' back...

    Diatomaceous Earth

I'm not sure about the poop but if you get food grade you can mix it in the feed as a natural dewormer for pets and livestock. Also an odor neutralizer, pest control product. http://www.diatomaceousearth.com/diatomaceous-earth-uses/ has a lot of products and information you could look into.

    Couple questions

You might be able to find DE at feed stores but its also available online. People use it for all kinds of things, but you'll want to make sure you get the food grade. As far as I know hens can make all kinds of noises, but i'm really not an expert there are more experienced people out there...

    Couple questions

I'm not sure bout what age to start deworming but I would think you wouldn't need to worry about that until they leave the brooder and head outside, where they would be more readily exposed to those kinds of things. Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is good for both pest control when dusted...

    1st Hatching

I've heard that sometimes eggs just hatch late. I know you must be worried, but I would probably wait another day or so. But "Float Testing, Checking Egg Viability For Late Or Overdue Hatching" is a thread by JJMR794 that should be helpful.

    poult issue

The only thing I think you can do is put vitamins/electrolytes in the water, if it doesn't drink on its own try using a dropper, just drip some at the edges of it's beak(careful to avoid the nostrils), when it feels the moisture it should open it's beak making the liquid drip in and letting the...

    Black sex link

Is it just the photo or is it more of a brown color? It doesn't really look like a BlackSL.

    Duck leg injury

Late up date on my ducks. Two of my ducks legs turned out fine after bandages were removed.. The one duck with the twisted foot had to back to the vet.. The vet wrapped her legs two more times after that then told me that the leg will never be normal and to save the ducks hip the leg would have...

    Can pullets crow like this?

That's not necessarily true, Hens can in fact crow. It happens most often if you don't have a rooster or had one at some point but had to remove it and one of the dominant hens decides to 'take over' the job even to the point of mounting the other hens. It can also sometimes be caused by a...
