    Inside Your Coop?

Rule #1: Make sure you have good access. Doors (or even whole walls, or roofs) that open to gain access makes everything easier to clean. Food and water should be out on the ground... they make too much of a mess on the wooden floor (if that is what you have) Roosts should be higher than the...

    Roofing question

Texas here. Plain tin in the hot sun on a 105* day will make the coop into a sauna. I used a foil-backed OSB board roof made from scraps from nearby construction. It is made for roofing. I see it in 4x8 sheets at home depot, and it isn't much money. The top layer is tin from an old garden...

    House plants for the coop?

We always used barley. It is super, super cheap grain. Let it grow about 8" tall and move the chickens to that area. They eat every blade of grass!

    cool hippie coop on craigslist

I didn't read the whole thread, but our locality has STRICT rules about "abandoned vehicles" in people's yards - - and a "hippie" VW bus chicken coop qualifies.

    Security ideas?

You can buy small fence chargers at farm supply stores for $25. You will also need some plastic insulators along with the wire.. The first picture on this page has a helpful view... the little yelow things are the plstic insulators the wire needs to run through to prevent getting shorted out...

    Tire suggestions

Quote: Roller-bearing trailer axles like that 2000lb capacity stub are way over kill. You can buy lawnmower wheels (or at least non-pnematic ones, hard rubber) with steels centers. They are not much money. I would not go with something that needs to be aired up occasionally. WHY did you use...

    How do I build Windows?

Quote: Habitat For Humanity " Re-Store ". http://www.habitat.org/restores/default.aspx?tgs=Ny8yNS8yMDExIDM6MzY6NTUgUE0%3d The one near me gets so many windows donated, that they have volunters smash them (A LOT) and separate the metal frames and glass for both to be recycled. The ones out on...

    Chicken Wire = Dead Chickens

Quote: Something heavier - - I have seen dogs chew through chain link fence (yeah, I know - - I don't know how, but they did) I am using "cattle panels" that are at TSC (tractor Supply) that are a really heavy gauge wire, almost "steel rod" heavy but not quite. The holes are too big to be...

From the heart <3 of Texas

Hello to all from Central Texas - the <3 of Texas! I am building my tractor now... it will be the same size to fit on my 68" by 16 foot car trailer if needed to move it :-) My friend's mother-in-law is sick, so they will be leaving the area soon - and I will be given 9 New Hampshire Reds when...
