    I am sorry for your loss. Our girl who died was also one of the healthiest, most active hens and hands down the best forager. We were shocked that it happened to her. She was one of a kind. like a dog.

    It seemed like a heart attack or a blood clot it happened so fast, I'm just glad she did not suffer long.

    Thanks for the replies and advice. She just walked out of the nest box after laying a perfect egg and out the run door to join the others in free time. When she ran out she just stopped and sat down and faded away in a few minutes. I already built a box and buried her in the back forty. I...

    She is otherwise healthy and well in appearance and behavior. Her last egg fell out on the ground and was thin shelled and more round than a typical egg shape. We have checked to see if she is bound and there is no egg. I look around every day for evidence of egg eating and there is none. I...

    I meant that osprey only, meaning exclusively, eat fish like they do not eat dogs cats chickens rabbits and such. Only fish. Eagles eat chicken, fish, vermin, roadkill, and even little dogs. Osprey will not hurt land animals.
