I have a newly hatch chick who seems to have spomething called wry neck? Its not something i have come across before and i have no idea what to do.

I am hatching today and have a sweet pekin bantam , who is very wobbly - not spraddle leg.
She leans her head backwards al the time, and then falls on her back doing it.
Anyone got any ideas? As i hate to give up on her!
I cover the floor and under roosting bars with old newspapers - then as i clean them out I roll the paper up, cathing all the mess, and put the whole lot on the compost and fresh paper down.
Works really well and is free!
I'm new to incubating like you - but have had 3 goes at it.
I agree that the one with a ring is gone.....but unless it is mouldy or smelly you can always keep it in there - my thory is that i am no expert and i can be wrong about eggs, so i tend to leave them.
I keep my heat at a constant 37.5...

Don't know if anyone can help - a friend has a hen that has a large tennis ball sized lump on its chest, that he noticed for the first time a few days ago, he says its soft and easy to move and isn't causing the hen any pain.
Does anyone have any ideas on what it might be and what hge...

My gut feeling is that if an animal is eating and drinking happily then there is a good chance for recovery, but she obviously needs to get back on her feet!

I felt like giving up last week as well. I hatch for fun - not full time, so try and enjoy all the 'kids' but hatched 19 last week and have lost 5 - and had to do the horrid thing where i had to finish some of them off.
Its horrid, but someone on this said to me...
I agree - try to bribe them with treats.
Do you have dried mealworms over there? My girls think its the best thing going. and a few of those in my hands and even the grumpiest comes running.

I am only new to hatching - but my theory is 'if it aint broke - don't fix it'.
I do often candle my eggs at 7 days - but always leave the unfertile ones in - as i'm not perfect and could make a mistake. I really only use it as a guide on what to expect.
