Was it Neil Grassbaugh? - if something is wrong I'm sure he can help. You can also try a small O ring at the base of the threads. I had trouble getting the threaded type to seal on a bucket and the O rings did the trick.
Mine quit crowing in the early fall. Didnt make sound for a bout 2 - 3 weeks. Then he sounded kind of raspy but is now back to normal. He seemed healthy in every other way. I wondered too "why" but i never got an answer.
