We lost a Leghorn today, we think its because she was leaking an egg from her oviduct. I went to check on the girls and to my surprise , found one still i
n the nest! Less than an hour later, we checked on her again and she was gone... there was egg yoke next to her and her backside seemed...
So sorry for your losses, its a sicknening feeling loosing chicks and not knowing why or what to do. We went through the same thing just not as bad. We lost about 12 chicks over a 1 week period a few months ago to cocci. We were also feeding unmedicated feed but once we realised what was...
So, we had our first cock fight... Our Silver Phoenix Rooster attacked our Mille Fleur Rooster yesterday and completely scalped the back half of his head and tore of the half of his comb. When we noticed what had happened, the Mille Fleur was in rough shape. We isolated him, gave him medicated...
As far as I know he`s fine. Never showed us anything different. It could be a false start, I didn't really know that could happen. Hopefully its nothing more then that. His crowing over those 3 weeks became more and more of a distinctive crow, and then no more. Thanks for your input, we will no...
Our Golden Polish Roo had been going through the exact same symptoms. We isolated him and tried everything we could to make him better. Unfortunately he died yesterday (a week after we first noticed symptoms) and when I went to get him out of the isolation pen, I noticed lots of little white...
Our Mille Fleur rooster has completely stopped crowing. He is young, around 18-20 weeks, but had been crowing for probably 3 weeks or so. He was clearly the leader of the pack, perching and loudly expressing himself but for the last week has been quiet and blends in with the rest. When we enter...
Sorry to hear for both of you. We've lost 4 ( 3 hens- 1 Roo ) in the last week and don't really know why. How could we figure out if it's CRD? All 4 were from the same coop but we isolated the Roo for about a week and a half when we noticed he was getting week but then he passed yesterday. As...
Thanks Nicole and Chickee! I'll read up on it right away. If it is caused by wet conditions it may by exactly what could be hapenning. Its been a super rainy wet humid summer over here...not at all like our usual summer so could make sense.
The brooder is 6 seperate 4 by 3 foot "pens" inside a ventilated barn. The air can flow (the chicks are 3 ish weeks) and the temperature is 20C average. At night a heat lamp is on if its cool outside. We check the water and feed regularly, so that's not the issue.
I don't think so. It's only about 20C here most days. We have been putting the heat lamp on at night as it gets really cool out after sundown. And all the other breeds (except one bird) are fine. There are 4 other breeds and Runner Ducklings in there and they are fine.
We got the Buckeyes from...
In the last 8 days we lost 7 chicks! 6 buckeyes and 1 Americana. The buckeyes were all in the same brooder but there were also other breeds in there which seem fine. I'm wondering if this is more common with Buckeyes (Maybe they are more sensitive to the elements?) or if this is just a fluke...
