Anyone use Cascade Layer feed? What is your experience with it? Also, the pricing I've seen for it is pretty spendy...what are you paying for it? Looking for the best price. Aren't we all?? (;
I have a big bully for a the dominant hen of the flock. She's even left an open wound on the head of one of my leghorns(one of my favorite girls!!). I'm thinking I just need to find her a new home with full disclosure. Suggestions? Anyone else deal with this before? She's a real meanie!
I have 19 hens and just about all of them want to hang out in the coop most if not all day....fall in Portland=rain, cloudiness...is this something that will adversely affect egg laying in regards to the need for light?? I started adding light in the early mornings in hopes it will help with...
At the farm store, the salesperson suggested using a 40 watt regular bulb in my coop to encourage egg laying. She said bright light can cause aggressive behavior in chickens. What watt do you use? Is 40 fine?
I am currently using a variety of different diameter branches in my new coop, but from what I have been reading on here, it sounds like 2x4's may be the best choice? The branches look cool, , but if the girls would like 2x4's better, so be it. Thoughts? And how far from the wall is best?
I have no idea what kind of chicken this is. The woman I got it from said it is a laying hen. I decided to go for it since it's so cool looking. Hopefully someone out there can shed some light! hahahahaaa!
Thanks to both of you. I'm still on the fence about using the Valbazen. It being off label for laying hens concerns me. My whole family eats their eggs and I have to feel comfortable...I wormed everyone with Wazine yesterday and am going to use DE in their feed mixed in with their new 50# bag...
Should I just reworm again with the Wazine? I talked to a guy at a farm store and he said he's never heard of or seen anyone find any other worms but roundworms in our area. ( Tigard, Tualatin, etc. Oregon). Just wondering if I NEED to do the valbazen or not. Only want to if it's absolutely...
Anyone know where to get DE in the Portland, Oregon metro area? Preferably westside. I bought a 4 pound bag at Wilco for $30. and am kickin' myself right now.. I need a lot more for the coop.
