taking chicks from moms to do or not to do?

For varioius reasons I am considering taking babies from their moms. Is this cruel or inadvisable? They are still mostly fluff, but the nights are upper 60's and 70's so do they need a lamp?

    Can chickens drown

I have a small pool for my duck and some of my chickens wade too. I lost a chicken in our water barrel though. I think it is a matter of how easy it is for hem to get in and out.

Does any one here NOT name their chickens?

we name some and we don't name others. The girls name alot , and it helps for identification issues As in "go grab me cinderella, something is wrong with her eye" But we will still eat them. We ate Angel for christmas.

Egg collecting, what's your favorite collection container?

I use egg cartons as well. saves time and they don't bounce off each other and crack which has happened in cans.
