Last night due to a sinus infection I did not put my chicks in their cage, nad this morning 4 of the five had been killed my a snake. Only 2 were eaten, the other 2 were just crushed and left. I knew we had had a snake hanging around but i thought it will be fine, and now I am miserable. I am just posting because although it was toytally my fault I am so sad and no one in my real life understands. I guess I just needed to share.

I know how you feel, and all I can say is I'm sooo sorry. Last month I accidentally stepped on my Chick, she was about 6 weeks old, and since the coop wasn't ready yet, I let her run around the living room several times a day, but I got careless and stepped her. It took me a long time to forgive myself, but I can say I learned My lesson (The Hard way), so I am a better chicken raiser for it.

I lost 5 chicks to a snake, they were in a hardware cloth enforced dog cage to keep the chicks in, we didn't even think about snakes, so we left the roof of the dog cage as it was. One morning found two dead chicks, thought the other chicks had murdered/trampled them to death. A few nights later, heard them screeching, went out to the laundry room to find a 5/6 foot rat snake in the cage, two more dead chicks, one eaten, one snake too fat to get back out of the cage.

I blamed myself too, but I have learned from that experience and won't make the same mistake again. Don't feel bad, sometimes we have to make some mistakes to make us better chicken owners.

I'm sorry for the loss of your little chickies
