We thought perhaps something may be wrong, but all her feathers have come back in fine, she looks good, and laying again. Outward, nothing seems wrong with her.

    Chickens gaining up

I recently moved and my dad is currently keeping my chickens as our rental Doesn't allow them. The day we moved we noticed a chicken was a mess. No feathers, ect. We separated her to get her to heal. But now everytime we reintroduce her she is attacked again by the same chicken. They free...

What is going on with my girls?!

We recent moved. For one week, my free range girls were kept in their run. The day we went out to move the coop, we found one girl missing feathers and bloody. We have separated her to give her time to heal. That started Dec 7. Finally has all her feathers and even laying. Tried to introduce her...

    My poor little lady!!

Would disease cause this or just pecking? I thought molting because its on her undercarriage, her back, her neck.. but she is in the only one. She is fragile. She bled when my husband picked her up to move her. Anything extra I can do besides separating her?

    My poor little lady!!

We were recently moving and have been letting the girls roam the yard, but since we were back and forth, we left them in the run for a couple days. We went to the coop yesterday to move it to their new home for the time being, and one of my girls was almost featherless and bloody. Is this...

    Chicken scratching!!

My girls lately are becoming ornery. They free range, however a couple have taken interest in our new and newer cars but scratching and pecking at them. I have holes all around my house for them to sleep in, however our neighbor has cats that are uncared for that randomly poop in said holes. I...

    Merging flocks.

Right now we have our 9 larger hens in the main part of the coop and sectioned off the back for our new flock. The new flock is about the same size, however they are not yet laying. Our larger hens are laying their eggs around the yard now as if they are protesting losing 2 boxes to the babies...

    Visiting family?

We have similar. Attached run with a lock (so coons can't easily open it), a door on the coop with a lock as well. We let them in the run during the day then free range if we are home.

    Visiting family?

We were thinking of taking 2-3 days visiting my mother in law. How do you care for your flock while away? If you just leave them in the run and coop, do you just keep the coop door open?

    Water heater

We are in the forecast for our first snow tonight. This will be our first winter with chickens. We bought a water heater, are they safe to put in the coop? Its raised off the ground wooden coop with linoleum flooring. Do they get hot enough to worry about fire hazard? Or should I cover the run...

    Random eggs found.

I just found out my girls have been laying in my basement windows. I found 2 nests hidden in the leaves. I have no idea how long they have been there. Should I throw the eggs away? or would they still be good to eat? We have had under 65 temps for a couple weeks now.
