My sister-in-law sent me this link. My girls just started laying and I only have two eggs - wanted to see what you all thought of this. http://www.drpepi.com/health-tips/chicken-eggs.php

Is this Normal - please help(with pics)!

I have four chickens - golden comet, black sex link, and 2 RIR. My golden comet is a few weeks older than the others. She is around 18 weeks old. Three days ago, I found the first egg in the nesting box - it had a very slight crack. They eat Purina Layena and I offer oyster shells as well...

FIRST EGG! But, it is slightly cracked - some ?

Quote: Thank you. I offer oyster shell and feed them Purina Layena. Should I be mixing the oyster shell in with the feed? It has been in a separate feeder thus far.

FIRST EGG! But, it is slightly cracked - some ?

So my Golden Comet just laid her first egg but it is slightly cracked. It is not cracked all the way through, just a little on the outer shell. So --- is it ok to eat? How do I prevent this from happening again? Thanks!

Newbie here - Does Coop Run need something on the Ground?

We are in the process of constructing this for our four hens - http://www.thegardencoop.com/ (We are doing the walk in coop) Do I need to put something down in the run because of their poop and pee? The coop has a roof, and it is a half grass/half dirt run. I have read about what to do for...

Coop Placement - Sun, Part-shade, or Wooded Backyard?

Quote: Well hello! We are in Gastonia, just west of Charlotte. Thanks for the input. I have my eye on a sunnier part of the yard right now. It is kind of close to our fence, so I was thinking of adding some privacy hedges there. I only have 4 girls, though.

I have all these above options for coop placement, and was wondering what is best for chickens? How much sunlight is enough - or too much? All advice WELCOMED, pretty please!
