Pea chick who won’t eat—failing to thrive

Thank you. She didn't make it. Sad.

    Weird illness in BCM hen

Yes, I’ll work on getting her to drink more. I’m tending toward an injury, too, rather hen illness. She’s in a quiet side coop, so hopefully with rest and liquids she’ll heal. 🙏

Pea chick who won’t eat—failing to thrive

My 3-4 day old pea chick won’t eat and is starting to fail. It’s never been strong and rarely pecked at anything, even when I offer bits of feed stuck to my finger. I drop water onto its beak and even then it rarely opens to drink it. Most of it drips off her beak. It hatched Sunday night, and I...

    Weird illness in BCM hen

The above pics show that she doesn’t have lice or mites by her comb, an above view to show her posture on the ground, the black side of her comb, and the red side of her comb. I’m wondering if it’s an injury from being attacked by a hawk or something. I have LGDs that protect my flock, so it’s...

    Weird illness in BCM hen

I’ve kept chickens for years and seen a couple illnesses. But I’ve never seen what my little BCM hen has right now. She’s lethargic, off balance, and has a black comb on one side. She eats a little, but not much. Though she still weighs almost normal. I don’t think it’s Mareks because that...

My pea chicks are dying. Anyone with experience have advice?

Thank you. I will check out your FB page. I've raised chickens and turkeys, so I thought I could raise pea fowl in a similar fashion. I WAY underestimated how fragile pea chicks are compared to chickens and turkeys. Maybe I'll try one more time....after reading your pages!

My pea chicks are dying. Anyone with experience have advice?

Thank you. What is your name on FB? I may try one more time to raise pea chicks, but this time do it right. These guys won’t survive. 😥 I only have 1 left, and if nothing else, the stress of being alone will do him in. I feel awful for being such a bad chick mama. I didn’t realize how...

My pea chicks are dying. Anyone with experience have advice?

It is probably about 85* on my porch, so that's good. The toltrazuril has shipped and I paid for expedited shipping. I sure hope it arrives soon enough. The brooder is a lot smaller than what they were in so I hope that doesn't stress them out. I've been supplementing their medicated chick feed...

My pea chicks are dying. Anyone with experience have advice?

I moved them out of their pen in the middle of the chicken yard and into a brooder on my porch that I supplied with all new pine flakes. The two that are left are a tiny bit puffy, but not much. When I moved them I trimmed their flight feathers in case they escape when I clean their brooder (I...

My pea chicks are dying. Anyone with experience have advice?

Yes, I know that. I was hoping to avoid secondary infections by giving them antibiotics. Not sure if it was the right move. The two remaining chicks I have are just slightly puffy. I moved them out of the chicken yard onto a brooder on my porch that has all new pine flakes. I'm hoping that might...

My pea chicks are dying. Anyone with experience have advice?

Thank you. I was afraid it was coccidiosis. I ordered the Toltrazuril. Hopefully it will get here in time to save my last two pea chicks. It's so sad. I keep them in a very clean coop (compared to most coops). I regularly add fresh pine shavings. I'll take out their 3 chicken friends and spray...

My pea chicks are dying. Anyone with experience have advice?

I've raised chickens for years, but this is my first attempt at pea fowl. I hatched 4 out of 6 eggs a friend of mine gave me. I raised the 4 peachicks with 3 chicks that I hatched at the same time. They stayed in a brooder for the first 5-6 weeks, then they went into a large coop in the center...

Hen acts egg bound, but no egg to be found...

Thinking it may be peritonitis since I can't find an egg. Anyone successful with home treatments? I don't usually bring my hens to vets.

Hen acts egg bound, but no egg to be found...

My hen has most of the symptoms of being egg bound. She is lethargic, won't eat or drink, and just sits and stares. No, she's not broody; I've had MANY broody hens so I know what to expect. Her comb has gotten paler since yesterday when I noticed her sitting apart from her friends. The problem...
