So far, my chicks haven't been out of the run at all-it's attached to the coop and they just run back and forth. I've been locking them into the coop at night-they're really good at going in when we approach the coop/run. The coop is secure with hardware cloth around the sides, so no digging!
My...
So, we did a few modifications around the coop--adding hardware cloth around the sides. They are sooo happy! There's so much room to run and play. Hopin I can get them to go inside the coop this evening!
I have a coop with decent sized run attached. I have 2-week old chicks who are outgrowing the brooder I made--there's no more space in the garage unless I can get the hubs to get rid of a few things (ha!). I've got to make a change quickly! They're in the garage where the temps are pretty set @...
Do you guys just put them in the run? How do you get them to come back so they can go in the brooder overnight?
It's warm enough out for mine during the day, for sure. But my run isn't really set up where I can get in there to bring them back...
So, just an update--
Checked the thermometer in the coop @ about 1 in the am. Was a little under 90. Chicks were huddled, so we put a heated rice sock wrapped in an old shirt. This am, checked on them around 7. Temp was 83 ish, but chicks were up and milling about, looking happy and social...

She doesn't seem to be acclimating like the other chicks. It's like she doesn't have good balance. She's also...
Thanks, guys!
Well, I got the chicks and I honestly don't know if they've been vaccinated or not. I read up on Marek's though, and it seems the vaccine is only mildly helpful, and mine were already 3 days when I got them, so sounded like it was too late. I guess I'll have to deal with that...
It's about 88 out right now. Hottest it's been most of the summer... Usually we're low to mid 90s summer evenings. Do I still need a heat source of some sort for the evenings?
Hi!
I bought my coop, used, from CL. Just got 6 baby chicks today. We're using pine shavings inside the coop with some paper towels on top of the shavings in the nest "carrels" (they're not really boxes, more sections).
As you can see, the run is attached. There's not much grass under the...
