    What are your rooster's names?

I have only one rooster, his name is Manny. My next door neighbor named him. He is 4 years old and now I am afraid I'm going to lose him. He is a Jersey Giant. Since I got home from vacation, two weeks ago, he has been listless, his beautiful rooster tail has been hanging down and it...

How do I get my chickens to go in the coop before nightfall?

I'm up here in Circle, I've never even worried about when they go to their coop. Since they get locked up in the coop for most of the winter I just let mine run around until they decide to go in. It's usually around 12:30 or 1 in the morning when I see them finally walking up the ramp.

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I got 8/10...my average is 6 per day even in the winter. I have 6 Black Jersey Giants and 4 Chanteclers. So not too shabby.... Some days though only 4 and then some days 9 or 10 (very rare)....They are all just now 1 year old.

cooped up six or seven months

I am up the hwy from Fairbanks. I've got 10 hens and 1 roo. They have all been cooped up since the cold hit. They have all been just fine. I have an insulated coop with only two light bulbs for light and heat. I open up their pop door as soon as it is -10 or warmer just to give them the...

    Alaskans

Mine did real well! I got really nervous when it got to -65 though! They made it!! My roo has a little bit of frostbite on his comb, but it doesn't seem to be bothering him. I'll just adjust the ventilation this year. The chickens, sled-dogs and humans are all extremely happy that it has...

    Alaskans

My husband brought them home from Fairbanks last year, I can't remember which feed store he said. They are real nice birds...take confinement really well and extremely cold hardy. I've been real impressed with them. I didn't realize they were that hard to find. Nice layers too!

Review by '' on item 'Jersey Giant'

I have seven Jersey Giants, 1 rooster and 6 hens. I love these birds. They are very cold hardy! We live where the temps dip to -60F at times. This is my first time having chickens and this was a great breed to start with. I haven't had any problems with them, they are all very healthy and...
