Hey guys, I need some advice. One of my hens went broody, hatched a batch of chicks for me and now I'm trying to put her back with the flock. But the rooster won't leave her alone... apparently he really really missed her. I've had her in a separate pen sharing a fence w the rest of the chickens...
Thanks, i think they are adorable. Its amazing how their looks change as they age!
Nope, I'm not sure of the proper color to call my adults...they look more lavender than blue to me so that's just what I called them. They very well may be coral blue as you say. Thanks for the insight.
That's what I'm hoping too. I looked on a nice reference chart I found on the internet and that's the pic they most resembled. I just wasn't sure if I had to have a RP to get a RP. I know my guys came from a mixed flock with some RP but wasn't sure how the genetics worked. Got another batch...
Peeps, or anyone else who would like to chime in...
What color do you think those 2 dark topped keets will be? My flock is pearl grays, a white and lavenders.
Thanks for y'alls input.
Arggg, I am frustrated! One of my buffs went broody; big time defending her clutch of unfertilized eggs from the evil invader (me). So I gathered up the only fertile eggs I have, guinea eggs, made her a nest in a separate pen and gave her the few eggs I had. At Chickenstock today I bought some...
Thanks, me too. Of my first group, i ended up with only 2 females to 7 males, so i hope i can even those odds some. Tho i don't know if my husband would agree. ;)
Not the best pic, i know, but it was so squirmy i was afraid it would make a break for it. My guineas had just started back laying so i tossed one of the first eggs in the bator to see if they were fertile, hoping to be able to tell in a week or so and add more. But that darn thick shell...
I've missed checking in with y'all... been busy hatching oegb for a friend of mine...24 over several incubations and 1 broody hen. And i hatched my first ever guinea! I was testing to see if eggs were fertile but never could see thru the shell. Went to transfer oegb eggs to hatcher and candled...
I have no advice...I think I'm in the same boat with you. Just had a mallard hatch that has eyes but will not open them. I can gently pull the eyelid down but it immediately closes it back. How is your duck doing finding food/water? Right now that's my primary concern.
Thanks. Right now he's with some bantam chicks for company in a brooder with a red heat lamp. All seem to be getting along fine. Eyes still firmly shut. I have sav-a-chick I will add to their water. Appreciate your input. We will see what the morning brings.
I posted this in the emergencies and illnesses section with no response yet...anyone here have any advice for me?

I had a baby mallard to hatch yesterday and today when I went to take it out of the hatcher, I noticed it won't open its eyes. It did briefly crack one open but quickly shut it back. Pulled down lid on other side...immediately shut eye back. It has eyeballs, eyes aren't crusted shut, but won't...
Had 8 OEGB hatch yesterday, didn't see any pips when I left for work, no more out at 3 pm when I called home, but at 5 pm when I got home, 1 more newly hatched chick and another with a hole that I can see beak through. Maybe a few more will surprise me!
