The reason for asking on the first moult is we want to rotate the moults. Order now and then some more later so only 1/2 of the flock will be in a moult at one time if possible.
Well cowgirl71 that is at least a start. I am pretty sure they are all laying every 3-4 days as I do have that many different eggs. But good to know, Thanks.
Hubby and I are ready to expand the flock since the current one is just not able to keep up with production demands.
I have heard several things that I would like clarification on...
1. When do hens generally start to taper off on egg production? excluding times of moulting. I have heard...
I know many recommend Wazine but I have been looking at the Rooster Booster http://www.roosterboosterproducts.com/product/50101 it does not have the restriction on the eggs that the Wazine does.
But I am wondering how often do you typically de-worm? And has anyone used the Rooster Booster...
That is a good idea. I think I will give it a couple more days and then if we are still having issues I will try and figure out how to seperate to combine a few at a time.
There are 14 in the older flock with the 5 younger ones. They have been in a adjacent coop where they could see and smell each other.
I knew there would be some squabbles over pecking order (no pun intended). So do I just keep putting the peck no more on her? or is there something else that...
I took the advice of many on here to add these 5 hens to my main flock at night after they go to roost. That was 2 days ago. The first morning there had be a squabble as 2 of the hens had peck marks on their heads. I doctored them with some Peck No More by Rooster Booster. This morning again...
I did a little searching so let me answer a few questions that may come up.
I have 14 Americana hens that are about 18 months old and 4 of the pullets (around 4 months old) that I would like to put together.
They have a 10x10 coop so I think there is plenty enough room. And we are working on...
We hatched a few chicks earlier in the spring and did not end up selling them all. I would like to integrate them into the flock but the older hens are just being bullies. We did have them in side by side coops for a long time where they could see each other and such. But so far it is a no go...
I was not real sure I wanted to burn the beaks either. We do pick eggs about every couple hours or so now. The problem arose this morning that the hen was actually laying the egg and all the others were on top of her before we even had a chance. So I suppose I know what tomarrow's project...
This morning after doing chores we were watching the birds and all of a sudden I noticed everyone start pecking a hen. It looks deep enough that the rooster may have got her with his spurs. We have her isolated and I cleaned the wound and put some iodine salve (that is all I had) on the wound...
