nice attitude. before you try spreading it around, you should think about what would happen if everyone started thinking that way. if everyone around the world suddenly started this protectionist nonsense of not wanting to buy foreign goods, it would be a complete PIA for everyone, but...
At nearly every TSC store I have been to, the 1"x2" welded wire is not kept with the rest of the welded wire fencing. Instead it is kept with the hardware cloth, usually around the electric fencing. This is usually in another part of the store.
I used to dumpster dive at a semi trailer repair shop. I found plywood, fiberglass, and many other very useful items. Then one of the owners saw me. (I had permission from the manager) He said it was against his insurance policy to let people do that. So after talking with the manager, I now...

Is this small enough to drag to new locations, like a chicken tractor?
I just showed the plans to my DH, and he likes it! Thanks for responding!)
Dove
The plans are for a 12'x7' If you put some wheels on it then yes. You can change the 12' length without having to change anything...
From what I've learned here it 4 square Ft.per bird in the coop. And 10 square Ft. per bird in the run. If you free range you won't need to worry about the last one.
So for 12 it would be 48 sq. ft. or roughly 6'x8'. Double that for 24.
Ventilation, Roost's. and nest boxes would be the most...
I started out with 11.86 arces and a house. Then added in the following order. Cats(7), Chicken's(25), Golden Pheasants(60), Ducks(8),Quail(4), Goats(2). I want to add more but I need a barn first. LOL!
I used these for my first coop. You can cover half with a tarp and the rest with chicken wire. Then use as a green house in the spring by covering with plastic. A multipurpose building so to speak.

Mine lasted 8 years before...
I have not tried this myself but, you could try one or two of these passive solar heaters.

The article says they cost about $32.00 to build. The instructions make it look pretty easy to do. Take a look!
Here are 2 links one is illustrated with drawings the other with pictures.
I hope this helps!

What you need is a chicken tractor. Something you can move around the yard every day. So they don't tear up the grass. There are plenty of examples at this site. Just remember to keep it light, so you can move it.
If I were you I would call animal control, to see what kinds of predators they deal with. You might be amazed at what they tell you. I used to travel to downtown New York City for work. I've seen coons there before. They will live anywhere they can find food and water.
It is not an alternative to chicken wire. It may keep out small birds but, it won't stop anything else that wants in. You might as well free range your birds. That is about the same protection they would be getting. If a coon can chew through chicken wire in 1 evening. ( This has happened to me)...
