Idiots!!!! No wonder stores go out of buisness!

YES ACE will get you anything you need. I have always had luck with them and even though most of there stores are on the small side. They seem to get anything you need no matter what. If I cant get it from ACE I will get to the nearest mom and pop store and they are my next best bet.

Good, I can vent.

I gave up on Lowe's, Home Depot , the big boxes a long time ago, useless and when you go to check out even on a busy Sat. your lucky if they have two cashiers, usually only one. They love to direct you to self check out that doesn't work properly half the time. So I only go if it's a absoulute necessity.

So, I just go to Branneky Hardware (A True Value Hardware Store).
Love the place as soon as you walk in someone asks if you need help and if you do THEY ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT THE HECK THEIR TALKING ABOUT.
They will order whatever you need if they don't have it. They do "old fashion things like replace screens, broken windows and sharpen axes, hatchets, mower blades.
It's got that old time feel too, the smell of popcorn, and old worn out hardwood floor that creaks when you walk on it. They carry things that just take you back in time like, Red Devil Lye, cast iron skillets, saw a box of Oxydol powder laundry detergent the other day when was the last time anyone saw that.

And for the most part their prices are not that much more then the box stores. The water softner pellets I buy are only 25 cents more then Lowe's, gladly give the quarter to a local company.

If our Tru Value had been like that, it wouldn't have gone out of business. While small stores can't compete on price with the big boxes, it can beat the pants off the big box stores in service and convenience. Unfortunately, our Tru Value was staffed with clueless teenagers. When Home Base, Home Depot and Lowes came to town, they folded like a cheap lawn chair.

Funny, that's the same thing the person at Tractor Supply told me when I called and asked them what kind of ducks they sold. Worse, I only got that answer after talking to 2 different people and being put on hold for 5 minutes.

nice attitude. before you try spreading it around, you should think about what would happen if everyone started thinking that way. if everyone around the world suddenly started this protectionist nonsense of not wanting to buy foreign goods, it would be a complete PIA for everyone, but the less self sufficient your country is, the more it'd cause you problems. go take a look at how much oil, electricity, gas (not petrol, gas, but that too) etc you guys produce vs how much you use, then tell me how your industries would adapt to face the changes in volumes and products you need to produce when you couldn't even produce enough energy to run the factories and businesses or gasoline to ship produce around the country.

import/export markets exist for very good reasons and trying to ignore that, isn't going to fix the recession your country caused. it'll just screw things up even more.

Judge much?

Bummer - but their own fault I s'pose. Our downtown Ace is thriving - and a few blocks from my house, so it's my go-to hardware stop. It's full of very helpful and knowledgeable people - not only that, if the person you ask doesn't know, they call over one of the old timers to help you out!

On another note, the best Feta cheese is made in America. True story.

We have several local hardware stores I'll always go to first before going to Home Desperate or Lowes. I've actually found Lowes pretty pricey compared to HD, but the local stores are usually right there with them or a bit higher, but that's ok, I'd rather support them. Obviously if the price difference is so huge it's going to hurt our budget and wallets terribly, we will buy where the price is the cheapest

Our country did not cause the recession. If you wish to place blame for that then follow the money. The U.S. has not controlled its currency since the federal reserve bank(a privately owned bank) took over. The people who own the federal reserve bank and, almost every banking institution in the world, are the real cause. However this is not the place to discuss this matter.

So on to the matter at hand. I can get anything I need from the local TSC. If they don't have it they can order it.
