Idiots!!!! No wonder stores go out of buisness!

You need to find out who the local junk man is. You would be surprised how cheap stuff can be had. Who cares if it has already been used; the chickens don't know and don't care.

It is better to buy something used than to buy something new that was made in China. Reuse and recycle. Buy American when possible.

I was with a friend when she went into our local convenience store and asked to buy a pound of cheese. The clerk told her she couldn't help her because all they had were eight ounce blocks. The clerk got really huffy when I pointed out that two eight ounce blocks equalled sixteen ounces which equalled a pound.

Oh Lord...that is pretty bad. Even worse, I called up one of the local feed stores a couple of months ago looking for waterfowl feed. Now, this is a pretty high volume feed store that SELLS ducks and geese.

I spoke to one of the managers and an employee and neither knew what *waterfowl* were! They had no idea what I was talking about. I was like you know, "ducks" and "geese"! They insisted they had never heard the term waterfowl before. The idiocy is sometimes frightening.

To Simply Forties:

I wish I could say for sure. I went back in my credit card history online and could only find one BIG charge at that hardware store for 2007. It was $220, and I know I also bought a ladder for about $50 at the same time. So say about $170. I have spent so much on chicken stuff that it's frightening!

I don't think my kids were this expensive as teenagers.

And yes, I'm all in favor of recycling materials. A tree fell on a shed at my mom's house. The tree is now cleared away and I've been looking at the crushed shed with an eye to salvaging the doors (undamaged, and made by my dad many years ago), some rafters, some solid plywood walls, and whatever else I can scrounge that didn't get broken up.

When I called Big R to ask what breed of ducks they had in stock, I was told....

"Yellow ones."

Thanks everyone!!!

There is a store over 3 1/2 hours away that will sell me 1/4", 36" by 50' for 60.00.
The hardware store 30 minutes from me will sell the same thing for 2.00 a foot, no matter how much I get.....

Now not only do I need a whole day free I need to find enough money to make the trip worthwhile. It may take a bit. I might have quail all over the house before I get the cages built....

I know I had a real hard time getting a roll longer then 50 ft..My run is 75x50. I almost ordered from china online..not kidding.
I finnaly found a tractor supply that had 1 100ft roll..

nice attitude. before you try spreading it around, you should think about what would happen if everyone started thinking that way. if everyone around the world suddenly started this protectionist nonsense of not wanting to buy foreign goods, it would be a complete PIA for everyone, but the less self sufficient your country is, the more it'd cause you problems. go take a look at how much oil, electricity, gas (not petrol, gas, but that too) etc you guys produce vs how much you use, then tell me how your industries would adapt to face the changes in volumes and products you need to produce when you couldn't even produce enough energy to run the factories and businesses or gasoline to ship produce around the country.

import/export markets exist for very good reasons and trying to ignore that, isn't going to fix the recession your country caused. it'll just screw things up even more.
