    Mixed Breed Ducks!

Thanks! He's my bonded duck. He was my 2nd attempt at incubating and the ONLY egg that came out.. it was horrible. So we set him up in our room and kept him with us for 4-5 months before I started letting the other ducks see him when he was outside, and he was about 6 months before I let him...

    Mixed Breed Ducks!

I'll donate to this thread. I had fun with some mixes this spring and got some fun ones. Khaki/Cayuga mixes: Link, my beautiful boy Rainbow (miss puff head here) has a very light copper tipped sheen, but you can't tell from this photo. She's mostly just black. Buckbeak looks mostly like the...

    losing duck feathers

I have one adult drake, and 3 young ones that I haven't seen mating yet. I'm working on rehoming 2 of the younger ones, but nobody is taking them, even for a cheap $3 each >.> I doubt it's from over mating, the older one has plenty of girls to choose from. I've seen the back of their necks when...

    losing duck feathers

Is this what molting looks like? One of my female ducks are losing all her neck feathers. None of my other ducks are showing signs of doing so, I checked for mites/fleas/lice and saw nothing concerning, the skin isn't raw... I have no idea what's going on. If it was a wide range problem, you...

Sight Sexing Barred Plymouth Rock Chicks at Hatch

Yup! Classic boy coloring picture left and girl coloring picture right. Are you positive the girl side is a BR though? Those legs are pretty pale, could be a Cuckoo Marans with those pale almost whitish legs.

Sight Sexing Barred Plymouth Rock Chicks at Hatch

Looks like two hens for me. The very dark one up against the mesh in the corner, and MAYBE the not-as-dark one who's head is right next to her. Might be the shade making that one look darker then the rest, too, though.. Edited. Nope, all boys but that one black one, just noticed your other...

    Drakes and ducklings

I put the stick barrier up around the dirt burrow since that's where they were already running. I'll go out and check on them periodically and see how it holds up against the big ones.

    Drakes and ducklings

That's just it, it's usually my Cayuga chasing everything and grabbing it, and my Pekin that chases the Cayuga and grabs HIM. I thought it was just my Cayuga harrasing the babies, but when I walked away after putting the Cayuga in the dog crate and saw the Pekin going after the babies next...

    Drakes and ducklings

The first picture is the adults free roaming a while ago and the 2nd one shows the babies when they were in the moveable run. Right now the babies are diving for the wheel burrow of dirt, but my pekin dove in there with them before I grabbed him out. I like the branch idea! I'll have to see...

    Drakes and ducklings

So I have 2 drakes and 3 hens, all adults. But I recently got 3 ducklings. They're now about 7 weeks old, fully feathered and quite big and I've had them in a movable run that sits inside the larger run to keep them separated from the older ducks for about 2 weeks, putting them up in the pen at...

Sight Sexing Barred Plymouth Rock Chicks at Hatch

Oye, sorry to your wife, but that looks like a little roo. I know how bad it sucks to love a chick and have it be a roo!

Sight Sexing Barred Plymouth Rock Chicks at Hatch

These actually all look female to me, personally. Here was my male at 2 weeks old: A lot more gray/white then yours look, yours are more black- a female characteristic.

help me sex my 8 week olds...

Thanks! That's my hope. I went through a long sad few weeks, thinking I was going to have a hatch rate of nothing but boys, but the bigger they get and the how small these last ones' combs are staying are starting to give me hope! Especially compared to my definite boys.

help me sex my 8 week olds...

NOTE: These are mixes. I'll post what mixes above each picture with the chicks name. The coloring is probably mute for all but the pure BR, as I guess the double barring gene wouldn't pass on. I'm asking as far as comb/waddles and redness. First I'll post my positive males to give a comparison...

    Duck Breed Focus - Cayuga

Oh.. that has me worried! Is this possibly a Blue Swedish?! They were the only black ducks at Atwood and the store said it was Cayuga! 'Cookie' has the lightest and brightest chest and I've suspected of being a boy for being more out-ward protective. The other two are darker chested with no...
