Dogs...
I have a 2 1/2 year old male German Shepherd that comes from German working lines. I train for search and rescue and just started taking a nose work class. It’s just to keep him busy, but he is very good and loves it. He is also a frisbee nut.
Horses...
I have 9 Quarter Horses that are cutting bred. 6 are here with me and 3 are with trainers. They range in age from 9 months to 29 years old.
Chickens...
Started my first flock in 2017. I planned on about keeping 10-15 hens for eggs and had my coop built to hold that many. I ordered my chicks from Sandhill which has a min 25 straight run chicks per shipment. I ordered dual purpose with the intention of harvesting all 25. Then placed my order for egg layers, another 25. For some reason I also put in an order for 25 mystery chicks.
I was never that great in math and find I am even worse with the chicken math. I bought a lot of electric fencing and had my son-in-law build 3 triangle shaped houses. Then ordered a 10 x 16 shed and put an axle under it. I have harvested a lot of the roosters and still have at least 6 more to cull. I have yet to cull any hens and not sure I will. Making plans to build at least another smaller shelter for breeding my EE’s and colored egg layers. Did I mention I ordered Cream Legbar hatching eggs for early this spring?
Never thought I would be so taken with a chicken. Love watching them. My grandkids are just as crazy as I am about them and my family loves the eggs and meat.
