    sick Rhode Island Reds

We just had to kill one of my Rhode Island Red Hens. She had yellow runny poop and was becoming droopy. I have two other reds that had the same thing. These hens were approximately three years old. My other breeds are not showing any signs of those symptoms. I have four more Rhode Island Red...

    Fighting Rooster

He wasn't trying to mate. My husband had to get him off the hen and there were a lot of her feathers on the ground. She is very afraid of him now. I have been picking him up and holding him. I'll try holding him upside down next time. When he was small, I would pick him up a lot. I thought...

    Fighting Rooster

My young rooster likes to attack me from behind. Thank goodness he doesn't have spurs. Today he attack my two year old pet hen. She had been the boss of the chicken yard. Does anyone know how to stop him from being so aggressive? He is a beautiful barred rock plymouth and I really don't...

    Twitching

I have a young rooster that is constantly twitching his head. I picked him up to see if I could find anything wrong with him and I didn't see anything. I saw one of my young pullets do the same thing -- but only once. This is about my 4th or 5th time to raise chickens and I have never had...

    Cornbread vs Chicken pellets

I agree with everyone's advice. I have 3 older laying hens and 13 young chickens. (11 hens and 2 roosters). I have been feeding them starter/growth, pellets, chops, and oyster shell. I only give them a few treats. Right now my chickens seem to be very healthy. I also like to keep my...

    Cornbread vs Chicken pellets

My chickens love cornbread. They have all kinds of chicken feed, but if I go into the pen with cornbread they act like Piranhas. Do they have taste buds?

Please help me, Hen or Roo??

    # 4 is a pretty chicken. The tail feathers look more like a hen. I think I would call it a hen at least two or three more weeks.

Please help me, Hen or Roo??

Sometimes it is hard to tell. If these chickens are two or three months old, the first one looks like a rooster, the second and third look like hens. I can't really tell from the picture of the fourth. Does it have a rose comb or a single comb?
