Rooster with hugely swollen wattles after fight

Sadly, when I went out to check on him, he had died! I am so sad. Wish we would have prevented the last fight, but we thought they had settled into stable pecking order. :(

Rooster with hugely swollen wattles after fight

They are free range - plenty of room. Live with llamas as guards. Is there some kind of antibiotic I can put in water to prevent infection from injuries? Right now he won't come out of a nesting box he is sitting in, facing the wall. poor guy:(

Will the roosters figure themselves out?

Injured rooster is red leghorn. Other one, now top dog, is mixed speckled hamburg/leghorn. They have plenty of room - are free range with llamas as guardians. I will try to get picture, but right now he is holed up in a nesting box, with his face to the wall and REALLY doesn't want to come...

Rooster with hugely swollen wattles after fight

We have 22 hens and 3 roosters. 1 rooster is new, as of about a month and a half ago. Our 2 old roosters have fought a couple times since the new one came, switching places in the pecking order. No fights for a couple weeks. I thought this was over. Today they fought again and one of our...

    Sudden decrease in egg production

We have 20 hens (some are old, some are young, some are just right) and used to get 12 eggs a day. For the last 3 weeks we have only been getting 6. It has been hot and humid and I wondered if that would cause this. Any ideas? Thanks

My whole flock was killed last night, please help me

Sorry for your loss - it is so sad! We had our whole flock killed about a year ago, much the same as you. We were baffled, also, as to what animal had done the terrible deed. I pulled over at every dang farm I passed in our rural area and spoke with 15-20 much older farm folks. The unanimous...

sick chickens? Eyes shut! Wierd. HELP!

Further info: Again tonight, a few of the chickens were walking around the coop or perched on the roost, but not sleeping, with their eyes shut! It seems like they are okay otherwise, but this seems odd.

sick chickens? Eyes shut! Wierd. HELP!

We were on vacation for 10 days with a friend looking after chickens. Seemed like a couple were roosted with their eyes shut too early in the evening. Today there's one still perched in the coop with her eyes seemingly shut, or gone ( i can't get her to open them.) Any ideas?

Light breed chicks picking on 3 heavy chicks!

We got a variety of 25 chicks from McMurray Hatchery. 3 seem to be heavy breed (meat birds?) They are literally twice the size of the rest of the chicks at two weeks of age. Today I came home and discovered the three Godzillas (as we call them) had been pecked to bleeding by the other chicks...

    Without a trace....

Just last week, about 8 AM we lost 8 chickens to a fox (or maybe a pair of foxes, not sure). It was swift and efficient and my husband tried to shoot one with the shotgun, but Fox was already too far away. We also have had mass murder by coyotes during the day. SO.... 3 days ago we got a...

Too long claws on hens - newbie question

    UTTER TRAGEDY

What happens if they all dispersed and flew or ran off? Will they try to get back together? Will they have a sense of direction? If they hear my one remaining rooster, will they try to head this way? Is there any hope or should I just assume they are all gone for good? How long can displaced...
