Gender validation - Standard Cochins and a Splash Polish - around 5-6wks old.

Maybe I am just paranoid at this point, but is Lemonade here a late blooming cockerel?! The others i posted above are all so much more developed but the other Cochin pullets do not have such suspicious wattles. 🧐 Below is another White Cochin who I think is a pullet and you can see one of the...

I have some chickens that I need help sexing...

This is my white crested polish who i am fairly certain is a pullet. Bob Ross has much wilder "hair" and prominant wattles in comparison. Hope that helps!

Lavender Americauna (6.5 week old) Pullet or Cockerel?

This is Lightning who us *supposed* to be a pullet, but... Their comb is not super red yet, but their tail feathers are so much longer and more angled up than the other Americaunas of the same age. Thoughts? Too soon to tell? We have at least 4 cockerels in this bunch of 19 so i am hoping...

Gender validation - Standard Cochins and a Splash Polish - around 5-6wks old.

I have 3 standard Cochin chicks and one Polish who I am thinking are male, but I wanted to get some confirmation from folks who know better than me because I'm wrong all the time 😆 Are all of these little punks cockerels like I am thinking? First is the one I am most confident about: Lacy, the...

    Baby chicks countdown thread!

Y'all. A bear got into the coop and we lost 8 out of 20 of our 8+ week old chicks. 😭😭😭 of course that nasty creature took our favorite buddies. We still have 7 barred rock and/or cuckoo marans, (its hard to tell the difference) a new Hampshire chicken, a white jersey giant, 2 silver laced...

    Barred Cochin 6.5 weeks

I've been operating under the assumption that this was a roo almost from the beginning based on general fearlessness and slower feathering, etc. But I feel like there should be more comb color and growth by now if he is indeed a he?? This is the only Barred Cochin I have, so it's hard to...

Are you wondering what gender your Buff Orpington is?

This thread came at a great time! My chicks are about 6 weeks. Pickle here was supposed to be a pullet, but I'm thinking probably not. 🙃

    Baby chicks countdown thread!

I'm back with more photos! A few, at least :) Not pictured are 4 yellow chicks - 2 different breeds, I think. Idk what they are though! They all look so similar. I may try and get some better photos and ask on a new thread. Also not pictured are 4 Barred Rocks. One was recently named Midnight...

    2022 Chicks - Cackle Experience

After that one I didn't get a location update until Thursday evening after 9pm! Then I got the notification that they arrived at the post office Friday morning a little after 7am. :)

    2022 Chicks - Cackle Experience

My Wednesday shipment said that too, but they arrived on Friday. I think that is pretty normal for them and they generally arrive by Saturday at the latest unless USPS screws up like they did with my first order...

Oh, I didn't realize they had the fluffy legs too! Oh man, these yellow ones are going to take some time to know for sure!

    2022 Chicks - Cackle Experience

Hello! I thought I would share my recent experience with Cackle for anyone who comes looking. I ordered chicks to be delivered the first week of March, but USPS sent them from Cackle in Missouri, all the way to the state of VIRGINIA instead of towards MINNESOTA where I live! Not Cackle's fault...

    Baby chicks countdown thread!

UPDATE: THE BABIES ARE HERE! Finally, a whole month later, we received our replacement order from Cackle Hatchery! To recap, we ordered 20 chicks total. 15 of their "Assorted Heavy Females" and 5 of their "Rare Chick Special". They sent 21 chicks and 20 of them made it, so I'm calling it a...
