I have a sick chicken. She is 13 weeks old. Everything seemed to be fine then yesterday I noticed her being separated from her flick mates. In the morning her crop was soft and squishy. She will drink a little water. I took her to the vet and the drained the sour fluid out of the crop. Sour...
Welcome to BYC. I love your dog. Sorry about your flock. I built a new coop last summer. Glad that’s over! I have 14 two year old hens. Two of the hens are Wyandottes (layer/meat) and the other 12 are layers. Planning to add 6/8 new chicks in a few weeks.
I don’t know much about treating lice. I would think waiting until morning can’t make it too much worse. I think waiting to get the right product would be best for the flock.
I had noticed those little things on one of my Golden Comet’s egg too. I thought they were parasite egg also. Freaked me out. I scratched them off and they were crunchy calcium balls. I haven’t seen any since that day.

When I built my new coop, I went with the plastic nest boxes. In the old coop, I had painted, wood boxes that my husband and I made. I used nest box liners which helped when there was a broken eggs. I like the plastic better because they are so easy to clean. I just remove them from the wall and...
I went ahead and took my sick chicken to the vet today. The reason I decided to take her was she produced what look like a small lash egg. He put her on tetracycline in her water for five days. I’m trying that now and hoping she will feel better soon. She is eating a small amount and drinking...
I checked her out while I was giving her the Epson salt soak. Her crop is soft and feels empty. Her vent looks fine. She did drink a little water for me. I’m not sure if she molted in the fall because most of my chickens look alike. It seems like she might be going through a light molt right...
