    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Thank you for the info. Really appreciate your insight. Do you think they can be penned up in a certain area kind of like a chicken run and just eat only the grass/weeds in that area? We have tons of wild rabbit around doing that.

I have totally been thinking about getting meat rabbits but have no clue on breeds or butchering. I did watch some videos on butchering them... As far as meat goes, are they meatier than chickens? Grow faster? a lot easier to raise than chickens? How many ppl would 1 feed? Thank you!

    Silkie thread!

Congrats! It's a cutie! Too hard for me to guess on gender with that picture alone. Can you get a pic of its comb too? I put my Silkie chicks outside at about 2 1/2 weeks with no additional heat source and they were fine even when we had nights in the 40s. As far as crowing goes, I think it just...

Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

Hi, new to this breed. I posted on the "gender" forum but not getting many responses. Thoughts on Roos or pullets? They are about 11/12 weeks. Based on comb and waddles i thought boys, until one of them got out of its pen a couple times and my rooster keeps mating with it. If the JG is a roo...

Jersey Giants - Pullets or Roos?

Thank you. Based on comb and waddles I thought Roos too, but one (the one with longer tail feathers) came out of its pen and one of my roosters kept mounting it, (as in mating)... So it made me question their gender.

Jersey Giants - Pullets or Roos?

Got these two Jersey Giants as babies. They are my first JG's. They are now 11/12 weeks. Can anyone (especially those experienced with Jersey Giants) tell me if these are boys or girls? Thank you! #1 on left. #2 on right. #1 #1 #1 #2 Sorry for the bad pictures. Let me know if I should...

INCUBATING w/FRIENDS! w/Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs No problem!

Wow. I had a staggered hatch with only one egg scheduled to hatch so I decided to test not going into lock down... Temp was steady at 100.4 and humidity was 10% and the chick hatched just fine!

Gender guesses? Around a month old, probably still a little too early but my guess is a boy...

    Silkie thread!

I agree. It looks like a mix or it's a lot older. My two week old Silkie does not look that big or as developed as that one.

Yes the roo has gold leakage. Well that will be very interesting to see yellow chicks turn blue! A couple of the chicks do have grayish/bluish parts but primarily yellow.

Parents Ignore the bigger gray chick on the far right. Broody just hatched 3 yellowish chicks.

    Silkie thread!

I've seen her very reluctantly allow the roo to get on top a few times... So I thought maybe she is getting close but didn't think she would be already... I hatched some eggs and the babies are yellow. The only ones I know for sure are laying are the black and blue hens. So, if my paint isn't...

    Silkie thread!

Is it possible to have white babies from a black roo over black and blue hens? Either someone has white genes somewhere down the line or my 5 month old paint pullet is laying!

Good for you! I don't but thinking you may want to look into an auto-sexing breed or sexlinks so you know off the bat which ones will be girls.
