well i don't know if people stopped being able to see this post, or just lost interest, but i ended up not giving any oral antibiotics.
but i did wash out and disinfect her wound daily for the first 10 days or so, and applied vaseline and some bandages to keep the area clean.

Well just providing an update on here. I did not give her antibiotics orally. I did clean the wounds every day for probably the first 8-9 days or so, and then applied a mix of vaseline and vetericyn plus on there, and put a sterile pad on top of that, and some bandage work.
Princess was not a...
oh got it. dont know much about trapping didn't realize that type of trap broke legs!
anyhow back to the original question - does she need antibiotics?
he is super skiddish. we were outside during the first attack and ran over and saw him and he booked it hard. whenever he sees or hears us he takes off very quick.
we're outside typically doing yardwork, and let them free range while we're outside with them. this is 3x over 2 years.
on this occasion I went inside to wash my hands, and chat with the wife for a bit before wrapping up and putting them away, and literally saw the fox run out while I was...
So yesterday was our third run in with a local fox. He hasn't killed one of our girls yet, but came close twice. Yesterday was another close call.
He bit "Princess" - an Ameracauna who is 3 years old twice. While she is not in critical condition, I think her injuries are more than mild. She...
I'll have to watch her closely to see if other chickens could be plucking feathers.
I use a powder normally for the chickens (permethrin i think?) currently for mite control, but maybe I can do more there.
If anyone has further suggestions let me know, I'll do some more reading here.
Here she is. Princess.
Still eating and drinking normally. Seems to behave fairly normally outside of this continual molt, but she's never molted like this.
I've got an odd problem with our 3 year old white Ameraucauna.
She hasn't layed in a couple months - which I don't expect during a moult. But she has started moulting much ealier than my Rhode Island Reds of the same age - and the weird thing is that she seems to be continually losing and...
Just to close the loop here.. the girls ended up being fine far as I can tell. The swelling went down in a week, I don't know what caused it.
Eyes stayed clear. Nothing strange in their ears. It's a mystery to me.
Thank for the advice!
I will have to check out their ears. I'm assuming other than debris/mites I'm looking for anything atypical?
We have the normal ventilation that the Omlet EGLU. There are no circulatory fans or anything, just passive ventilation.
Shouldn't be excess ammonia - the wife...
I've got a few rhode island reds that are 3 years old, and one araucauna.
they all have this symptom of swollen looking eyelids (not really impacting vision) and occasionally shaking heads.
i don't see any discharge or eye bubbles. we're on day 3. things don't seem to be getting much worse or...
