Post Your First Egg Pics-Part 2

Our first egg ever! We have 8 girls-- Golden Laced Wyandottes, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Rhode Island Reds, and Americauna Araucana mixes. They are just over 18 weeks old, and I found this in the coop tonight! So frickin thrilled

    Limping Rooster-foot looks fine

Hey all, I have a 4 month old Rooster who has had a limp for about a week. The first day I noticed it, I caught him and examined his foot and didn't see anything unusual. A week later, he's still limping--and it's worsened a bit. I caught him again today, soaked his feet in epsom salt water...

Chickens scared to leave coop--food and water are out in the run.

I did take a few hens out and set them near the food and water, then showed them how to use the ramp to get back in. Maybe I'll try to get a few more out there with some treats.

Chickens scared to leave coop--food and water are out in the run.

FINALLY finished fixing up the coop and run (holy lord, it took forever--busy schedules) and got the chickens OUT of my house. I put them in the coop first, leaving the chicken door open to the run--but a few hours later, none of them have been out yet. Their food and water are outside in the...

    Brooder Enrichment

That's an awesome idea! I still have their baby perch, I might have to do this.

4 week old silver laced Wyandottes-- maturing quickly, or all cockerels??

2 cockerels and a hen. They're the only 2 roosters out of 10 chicks so I'm not too disappointed!

    Tourniquet on chick's leg

Yes. I made the post minutes after it happened, it was still very swollen. I didn't want to wait around for replies so I hurried and stuck her in an epsom salt bath just to be safe. She's already walking better, swelling has gone down a bit. Poor thing 😭

    Tourniquet on chick's leg

I'll try to get a pic a little later, there aren't any open wounds or anything like that. It's just filled with fluid.

    Tourniquet on chick's leg

I had a chick get her leg tangled up in a scratched up puppy pad (don't worry, I'm getting rid of them right now) and her foot is pretty swollen. Should I soak it in an epsom salt bath? It's hard to see in the picture, the left one is more swollen that the other one and looks a bit discolored.

Chat room for non religious poultry keepers! :D

I like Easter because I'm a sl*t for consumerist holidays 😅 And I love watching my kids hunt for Easter eggs and find their Easter baskets. But I could do without the story behind it. I have to work on Easter this year anyway, but every year that I have to work I tell my mom that no, she can't...

Chat room for non religious poultry keepers! :D

That's fine, it's just nice to know that there are plenty of other people like me here :) the gardening/homesteading/farming communities seem to be overwhelmingly religious which is fine, but I quickly feel out of place and sometimes unwelcome in those spaces because of my lack of belief...

4 week old silver laced Wyandottes-- maturing quickly, or all cockerels??

I bought three silver laced Wyandottes that were labeled as pullets. They all three seem to have a comb that is pinking up quicker than our other breeds, with pink wattles too. None of the other chicks that I've seen have wattles yet. Do we think they're all boys?? Too early to tell? #1 #2 #3

3-4 week old chicks not using brooder plate

Unfortunately our temps are still in the 30s-40s, and upper 20s at night (good old Midwest). But I'm thinking they'll be ready to go by 7 weeks or so!
