Rarest breed of chicken in the US?

What about a Brabanter? How rare do you think they are? I have a cream one that I got from someone just because my wife wanted a Barred Rock and this was the only black and white they had.

Are Chinese Lantern plants bad for chickens?

I'm looking through my seeds to plant and find that Chinese Lanterns are poisonous to humans. The leaves and unripe pods. I didn't know if they were bad for chickens too? My little girls are eating any greens they can get a hold of so I want to make sure. Thanks

    Tomato Plants

Ok, so how bad are tomato plant for the chickens? Every day for the last few weeks the girls have been heading straight for the tomato plant when I let them out and have been downing as much as they can. I don't really care if the eat it, I've gotten all I wanted off of it, but is it bad for...

Question please answer need to know before tomorrow!

You can also do exactly what the breeder said and go to the Co-op and get the type of food they said. Since you have a Co-op, it will prob be cheaper and better to go through them.

    Chickens and Bees?

I have a few chickens, and they run free in the backyard all day. I'm now thinking of getting a bee hive and was wondering if anyone knew if the bees would go after chickens that got to close, and if a bee could even sting a chicken. Any help would be great. Thanks.

    Is this a Flatworm/Round Worm?

huh... We do have tons of slugs, but they are usually short and fat and are just football shaped. I've never seen a head like this. And I'm in the middle of a city so I don't know where a leech would come from. Maybe it's a strange slug... Thanks all.

chickens dying for no reason, please help

If you go to your local Wildlife Rescue, they might do a necropsy for a donation. Then you can write off the money on taxes. It sounds to me like it is something that is spreading from one to the next also. Do the stools and everything look fine before they die?

    Is this a Flatworm/Round Worm?

One of my chickens has been having major loose stools for a week and I have been fixing things to see if it's stuff they are eating. I looked today and there was a ton of stool over night but it normal finally. Then looking around the yard I found this. it is about 7 inches long and thought...

Is it humane to keep chickens in coop 24/7?

Another thing, is that if you have lots of grass that your son plays on and you have sprinklers, you can just let the chickens out for a few hours at the end of the day, and wash the poop off with the sprinklers when they are done. Tractors are great for the city. I have it for my 6 hens. I...

    is this normal...

You should have two food bowls. I learned this the hard way. The alpha hen in my case was blocking the food and water so no one could get it and would chase any of them away. I now have one food in the run and one in the house. Sorry, don't know about the eating the eggs. Try putting in a...

Trying to integrate the chicks. What now? Need help!!!

If you free-range them, I'd let them all go out in the open so they can get away when they need. They will be picked on just to set the pecking order, but it will only be a week or so. If the larger ones are friendly to you, I'd put the bantams in your lap and let the others come over and see...

Bantams, do they need special treatment?

I have Silkies with EE and RIR's and there's no problems. The Silkies actually snuggle up to the EE and they keep each other warm at night. I would throw them together and see what happens. If they get picked on to much then you can separate them, but I'd think they would be fine.

What happens when chickens eat potatoes?

ok, that's what it was. All of the chickens have stopped having running noses and seem to be back to normal. Thanks all.

Unknown egg date - what is your experience?

I've heard from tons that eggs are fine for up to a week on the counter. If they were out in the open where the chickens could sit on them and keep them going and you have a roo, it might have started to grow a chick too. It wouldn't be dev enough to really worry about since the hens don't let...
