I live in Livonia NY. Just south of Rochester. I just posted fertile eggs on craigslist in case anyone is interested. http://rochester.craigslist.org/grd/2318201922.html. I will probably be getting rid of a few of the hens and the rooster in the next couple weeks if you are interested. They...
This is my first time raising quail. From what I read on-line I think they will be big enough to eat in 6 weeks? I hear they are very good so I plan to try them. They are small and I read that a serving is two quail. I also hear the eggs are delicious although I have never tried them.
There was 4 dozen with 4 bobs. I put them in at the same time so I wouldn't expect anything from the bobs until today or tomorrow. I used the chicken turner and it was fine except for a couple that were so small they fell through. I live in Livonia. Right now I am up to my ears in birds so I...
Sachasmom, I had 15 of the quail that I got from you hatch so far. I am not sure if I will get any more. Not a great percentage but I am happy since it was my first time hatching quail.
I was able to get rid of my black copper rooster yesterday. Yeah!
Yeah, roosters are tough to get rid of. Does anyone eat year old or older roosters? If you do I would like to hear about it. I had a bad experience the one time we tried (like eating rubber bands). If they weren't so tough on the hens I would keep them around longer. I usually hang on to...
I have a one year old Black copper maran rooster I want to get rid of if anyone is interested. I posted pictures of him on Rochester craigs list this morning for 5 bucks. Let me know if any of you are interested in him.
I have been out of town and was reading the posts. I bought food grade DE at the agway in hemlock NY. It was cheaper than anything I saw online or elsewhere. I think it was $25.00 for 50 lbs but don't quote me on that.
The guineas I hatched from Amy (tajmahalcoop) are doing great. I am...
Hi there long last farm....I grew up in Wellsville but moved to Rochester after college. I still make it down occasionally to visit family and friends. Welcome to the group!
I didn't make it to the Bath auction. I visited my Mom for Mother's day Saturday. When I got home Saturday evening all the clocks were flashing. A neighbor claims power was out for about three hours. My eggs are due to hatch on Wednesday. Does anyone have any experience with this? I am...
I also seem to be having more troubles with predators. I lost a ton of young chickens last year. So many that I built a new coop with a large fenced area for this years babies. I have had some luck with my dog. She is pretty good at keeping the fox away and goes crazy anytime that she see's...
I stopped at the agway in Hemlock and they had a variety of chicks. Speckled sussex, black star, rocks and a few others that I can't remember. TSC in geneseo has cornish rocks, barred rock, comets and leghorns. Managed to leave both without any more chicks although the sussex were calling me...
I mapquested and I think you are too far away( I am 14487). I would have been happy to take or give.
I guess I was to impatient as 4 have hatched since I questioned how long it should take.
So almost all have started coming out but only two have hatched. Seems like they are taking too long. How long do you guys usually expect from the initial hole until hatch?
4 more eggs are starting this morning. I am not sure why the one yesterday morning was so early. He already looks like a he. The comb looks larger than what I usually see on a day old chick.
Had a fox looking at me in the back yard yesterday. Made it through the winter without any attacks...
