I have a one year old Black copper maran rooster I want to get rid of if anyone is interested. I posted pictures of him on Rochester craigs list this morning for 5 bucks. Let me know if any of you are interested in him.

where are all the NY chicken lovers?

kinda slowed down on the posting here huh? It's the busy summer season, not to mention about the only posts anyone has had lately are ....who needs a ____ Rooster? lol (I have played a part in that)
Happy 4th of July, hope everyone can keep their chickens cool this hot week ahead!

Kids out of school makes for very busy days here!

Philbee, I checked out your craigslist post just to see the pics. Beautiful roo! (But I certianly don't need another)

Happy Independence Day, everyone. My oldest son celebrated this morning by getting up and shaving his head bald. Looks kind of funny because the top of his head is so white and the rest of him is so tan already. Oh well. It could be worse, at least hair grows back.

Yeah, roosters are tough to get rid of. Does anyone eat year old or older roosters? If you do I would like to hear about it. I had a bad experience the one time we tried (like eating rubber bands). If they weren't so tough on the hens I would keep them around longer. I usually hang on to one male from the spring hatch and then after the following years hatch I look for a new home for him.
He really is a good looking bird and big.

I think Coq au Vin was made for old Roosters, LOL

Just stick him in the crockpot for the day, he'll taste fine! I do see a difference between "real" chicken and store chicken, its a lot "gameier" and def tougher. More flavor I guess? I did some meat chickens here, only they didn't know they were meat chickens and would not just sit, eat and poop! So they taste like the other ones we did last year. Oddly enough, my one dog will NOT eat real chicken, only factory farmed chicken.

I have a bunch of extra Drakes here, LOL No extra Roos, I'm actually short two Roos now! I have some extra Pekin and Buff girls too that I put on CL, no takers so far.

I'm considering swapping out the Buffs for a different breed though, while I like them alot, They have not been as popular as the Cayugas or the Harlequins were. Considering Silver Appleyards in both sizes too. If I suddenly come into a boatload of Moola I'm going to go buy some ducks from Holdereads I think...

Just wanted to stop in and say hello!

Thats what I've been doing too. They all just stand there and seem to enjoy it so I know they are hot lol. The heat is supposed to break by tomorrow, I sure hope so!

oh, they like the water spraying on them? I have been trying to avoid spraying them, lol. I feel especially bad for my wyandottes, they look hottter than the others.

AND! I got my 1st wyandotte egg yesterday!!! Will crack it open tomorrow and see if it's fertile. Can't wait for the 90's to go away. I live in the north for a reason ya know.
