I didn't really see much of the fair last year, its still scads better than the Ontario County fair was (our county!) At least parking is free this year.

The problem with the livestock exhibits (well, besides the usual drama that accompanies anyone showing anything) is they have been trying to cut the premiums for like the last two/three years. I'm really really surprised it is in the budget this year at all. Premiums are a big big reason why anyone shows anything. My opinion is its more about getting new customers, but anyways.

I didn't see the poultry entry, but I think the only Waterfowl are mine and one other persons. Not sure how I feel about the community pool though, but if I make a stink or say no, everyone is gonna wonder why my ducks are not over playing in the pool...

No pigeons I don't think. No pigs again this year, and someone said the sheep people were mad, so no sheep? (Like I said, drama) If you're looking to buy, I think the state fair is a better option. I think some of mine will be for sale

Not sure how they are going to feel about that, but it doesn't say I can't in the fair book. Last years poultry entry was hit or miss on the quality.

I just need to decide which Buffs and which Cayugas I'm bringing, which Silkies and which Ameracaunas, and if I can live without any of it, since someone will ask if its for sale. Of course, I should say no so they'll offer me more money, which is usually what happens when you say its not for sale! I'm debating if I want to keep the Cayugas, or if I want to order some from Holdereads instead. I honestly have no idea if they're good Cayugas or bad ones... I'd hate to sell a really good one! ;p Hopefully the poulty super will give me an idea on what I am looking for. I'm undecided on selling the Harlequin Drake, I think he looks awfully nice (what do I know??? LOL) but I don't have a girl to go with him... Plus I can't decide if I want to do Harlequins or Silver Appleyards.

I'd give ya my extra pass, since I get in free, but you'd have to come in to get it, so kinda a moot point...

Oh, and I do have an extra Black Split Ameracauna Roo (Young) that I just CL if anyone wants... Its from Pips and Peeps by way of Bailey from PA, LOL I actually think all of the black splits might be Roos (figures) but this is the one I am almost sure is a Roo (which means it will lay eggs for you, Murphy's Law!)

Wow, one of my hens has gone broody AGAIN
th.gif
Her last two are just about 7 weeks old, and on their own. I guess she has empty nest syndrome

, because she laid one egg and has decided that she is ready to sit again. Wish I has some more eggs to hatch, but my other LF salmon fav is still caring for her 3 week old babies and only one other hen is old enough to lay, a small mixed banty.

Anyone close by with hatching eggs in need of a surrogate momma?

Hey all,

I have some top of the line (Foley and sterling sue) Blue Laced Red Wyandottes that are 10 weeks old that I am trying to sell. I also have 2 silver laced polish from Baregretchen and some gorgeous olive eggers from cottage garden and sashasmom that need to be sold, these are about 4 weeks old. Any interest? Finally I have 3 stunning olive egger roos from Sonew123 that need to be sold as well. I can post pics if anyone has any interest in them.

Sashasmom, the quail (the three that hatched) are doing awesome! They are so laid back I love them! So much easier to deal with than my buttons

Anyway I saw your post about the quail eggs, but I promised myself I'd stop hatching LOL ! Then I go and buy a R-com King Suro. I must be crazy...

Ya sure you don't need more Quail??? LOL I've found that as easily as I kill chicken eggs, its sooo much easier to kill Quail eggs (and Quail, as it turns out!) My last two batches I hatched out ummm, three and one? Well, more did hatch, but they didn't make it. I really think its a humidity thing, since the egg is so small I guess they dry out pretty quick. I have anouther batch in now, if at first you don't succeed, kill kill again, right?

Unless its the feed, they really should be eating the high protein stuff, but I hate to buy 50 pounds of it just for them, then I almost always end up feeding it to the rest of the chickens. The whole everyone needs a different feed thing is making me insane (okay, broke!)

I also have Mexican Speckled Bobs, and they're freaking nuts. I had planned to raise some with the Coturnix to calm them down, but the chicks all died. I had one extra male and he sold pretty good at the auction, without them even taking him out of the box! So I wish I could hatch more of them, plus I want to get some Snowflake and maybe one more variety.

I have had trouble with some of the Quail being aggresive, I moved some outside to a tub with one lone Ameraucana chick in it, and they beat the snot out of him. So I had him running about my garage, but something ate him. I have one pen of Quail that kill every new female I try to stick in there, I'm not sure WHY, you would think I could just add one there, but I guess not?

I'm thinking about putting a stacker for Quail out back, but then I thought do I really NEED that many Quail? Of course, that could be my husbands voice I keep hearing.

Do you know if you ended up with girls or boys in the Quail?

I keep seeing people post Quail eggs in all these pretty colors and I have to sit on my hands!

I sold 8 ducks today, so that was cool. Darn things were eating me out of house and home!

Oh, and LMK how you like the Suro? I got a Genesis for my B day, my first batch is due, well, soon. Someone here forgot to write down when they set the eggs! (And the batch after that too!)

OMG yes on the duck feed... holy cripes those little suckers eat! I have one cayuga and one crested that isnt crested out of ALL of those eggs! 20 eggs! Cant believe it and lost most of them in lockdown. I must be a total duck hatching idiot.

I dont know on the bator yet as I have not used it. I would LOVE more cotournix but I need to also sit on my hands. I have NO idea what the genders are of my three. I think they are "wild" colored... do the males get the white bib? Hmmmm now I have to go look tomorrow. I cant get over how mellow they are though I love them. Look up the definition of "spaz" and I'm sure there are pictures of my buttons... and they're aggressive compared to the cotournix, then add in the boink factor and man what a task they are turning out to be!
