NY chicken lover!!!!

I live in Livonia NY. Just south of Rochester. I just posted fertile eggs on craigslist in case anyone is interested. http://rochester.craigslist.org/grd/2318201922.html. I will probably be getting rid of a few of the hens and the rooster in the next couple weeks if you are interested. They were born last spring.

Can't really say about your Dels without pics. Roos usually have bigger combs early and barring on the tails. Pullets do not. Can't say about the lavender, but I just think the black is to light. Did you get your Dels from me?

As for gardening go for raised beds and my style watering. I use the #2 sized cans. You know those large ones. Cut the top and bottom out and push it down around your plants. Then when you water just take the hose and fill each can. Take just a few minutes and the raised beds make weeding practically non existent. I lay card board boxes in between the beds or paper feed bags. Keeps down the weeds and recycles the paper. In the fall let the chickens loose and they work it all together.

Take care

Wooot!!! Love those teeny eggs!! I got four one day so I know all of them have started up.. and finally all their tiny little combs are red.

Do they have names yet? I called them eenie meenie minie and moe but that was just for fun since they were hard to tell apart.

I named one "Boldie Hawn"...she is sooo bold. First to try everything. One of the others is very shy and won't approach me for treats. She just waits for someone to drop theirs and then steals it. I may name her "Bonnie", as in Bonnie and Clyde. But they hard to tell apart. B. Hawn has the most white in her head feathers. Since they are so small I am always looking at the top of their heads, even when I am sitting on the coop floor. But eenie meenie minie and moe might be easier.

That is a great idea rancher! I'll have to take some pics and send them to you but I definitely need a better gardening system - my knees can't take it anymore needless to say my back. Too many days of body building and over doing it when I was younger I think not to mention all the high stress corporate crap through the years......blah blah blah

Maybe she is coming in more greyish but it isn't like the other dellies that have the light grey lacing coming in - this gal/guy is almost more like mottling of the feathers - where there are a few that are that creamy white and then several around it that are turning a lavenderish grey - all over the body in this pattern. I don't think I got my Dellies from you - I got them on ebay as eggs and hatched them - do you do any ebays????

Boldie Hawn - that is a great name! Maybe the other one should be Calliope that is so shy.... Then you could do Meg Flyin (

) we'll have to work on the other names all - won't we???? How about "Baby" from "Dirty Dancing"????

Queen Mumbles - hmmmm - I think she needs a chicken pillow and a little crown and sceptre - then you could do like the Zelda cards with the dog and make great little sayings with pictures of her. Seriously! I wasn't poking fun - if dogs can have their day in cards why can't the chickens? They just won't take as much crap from us as the dogs do probably!

Meg Flyin'...that's great. That's a good name for the one that is always flapping her wings whenever she is flustered or pushed out of the way. Now to figure out how to tell her from her 3 sisters when she ISN"T flapping her wings.

Thanks this place has SO much great info! I'll never have to go any where else with my ducky and chick questions. I'm so happy I found it!

Fyre - here are pics of my garden. You can see the cans used to aid saving time and water when watering in the center of pic two. The others has plastic milk jugs used to create mini - greenhouses and allow an earlier start on my squash and other plants. The milk jugs fit nicely over the cans.

Hi!
I just found this thread, and I'm going to work my way backward through it

I'm brand new here, and still trying to find my way around. We're in CNY, not far from Fair Haven. I am looking for chickens locally, and hope to find someone through this thread. I guess I should look do my profile while I'm at it!
