Hi Aria,

I should have some white Silkies in the next few hatches. All of our silkies are bearded.

My next hatch is due Tuesday. There will also be some BBS & more from my experimental White over BBS. Not sure how they'll look when they're adults, but I can definitely tell them apart from the pure colors.

Oh your poor Son, has he recoverd yet? How does Mumbles, Queen of the Silkies feel about this????Maybe it was a covert Silkie operation to increase their numbers at your home

Went to TSC today and my husband broke down and let me get five Silkies from there today - look like I might have some buff, grey and maybe a splash and white. I also picked up a couple of Silver Wyandotte but they look almost gold to me which is fine too since I have some gold anyway!

Tigerlily if you weren't so far away I'd PM you about some Silkies but that is quite a ways and I already have to meet muggsmagee for some chickens she and I have discussed. My husband already rolls his eyes over that trip!

Sigh, lost my Golden Retriever "Baxter" yesterday...he was in dog years as old as methusulah! He was right about 14 plus and was my outside puppy boy. Not a good couple of weeks for me and puppy dogs! I'm down to the one St Bernard Female Loki who is actually 10 herself but an inside puppy dog.

Maybe that was why we were both suceptible to the siren song of the Silkies

So I hope everyone got a chance to sit back a little and enjoy the temp???? Everyone we passed it seemed like had at least one person or more sitting out on their porch!

Hi there I'm from Syracuse.

I have delaware purchased in Alden. This is what I focus on and breed. I also have orpingtons of all the colors. Now never fear I ususally have some cross bred chicks cheap enough. Plus others that just don't move so you'll have chickens if anyone here has anything to say about it. I usually do a few EE's also just for the fun.

I wish you fun with chickens. You'll get lots of advice here asked for or not.

Not surprised about the D#$% at the end they are after all French! You have to remember to pm me your poems in case I miss one.

Which auction was that where you got your eggs? I've considered crossing BCM's with CM's to get a darker egg. I understand that BCM's lay the darkest of the Marans breed, is that true?

Hey fyre--I dont think mumbles thinks of herself as a chicken. She acts more like a spoiled baby (which she is). The babies are growing and a couple of them are challenging her now but she lets them know who is boss! Now that they are all downstairs in the brooder box, she listens for me and starts cheeping for me if she hears me, what a brat!!! Oh, here are some pics of the new babies at a week old.

I HAVE CHICKENS!!!! Thank you sooo much Featherz....

3 of the 4 traveled well. One of them had a hard time walking...could only go backward ...I picked her up and held her legs up and to her body. Don't know if that fixed it or if just resting a while in my arms worked to calm her, but she is fine now. Sitting ON her sisters.

I showed them the food and water. 2 drank, 2 didn't. I put them on the roost. Ever see 4 chickens on an 8 foot roost. They use less than 12" of it. LOL

I sat in the coop with them for about an hour. They seemed to calm down after a while and started to explore a little.

I just went out there (dusk) and took them some small pieces of my hamburger roll and some minced cooked potato slices. Again, 2 ate, 2 didn't. Don't ask me which 2, they still all look alike to me.

I have to find something else for a nest box. They spilled the one I put out there, stepping on it to get on the roost.

I know they were running around while I wasn't in there with them. There are chicken footprints EVERYWHERE....

They have food, water, sand to scratch in and air circulating. What else can a chicken want.
Tomorrow I go out and find some scratch grain. I forgot to look for it when I went in TSC for food.

Fyre - Yes, the Ameraucana's streightened him out on the way home. They quieted down fairly quickly in the car and by the time we got off the thruway, he was concerned that they had all died. We stopped for gas and checked on them...well, woke them up, really. Couldn't wait to bring them in the house and show them off.

So sorry to hear about your dog.

It is so hard to lose an old freind like that. I hope your St. Bernard is adjusting well to being the only dog.

So excited to hear about your black copper marans. It will be cool to see those dark brown eggs.

Weather was cool and the wind was cold today, but still took the dog for a walk and cleaned the yard a bit. Hope tomorrow is not too bad with the storm. Doris might get scared.

Have a good night. Hugs for you about your dog.

Yay!!! I hope they do well, they are so sweet

I don't feed them treats too often so they may just need to figure out that that's yummy stuff!!

As for a nest box, I was using a rattan cat cozy and one for some reason was laying in a little plastic box I had there for a roost step. I guess it worked out better for her.
