(well actually not, very high IQ but chickens don't care!) I realized after I was looking up the breeds that OEGB stood for Old English Game Bantam. I really really hope these hatch.

Rancher - I was able to get three Black Copper Maran eggs from the Auction - waaaay too excited!

I don't know if I can get rid of any of these new breeds if they hatch.

With Colors of Black & Copper gleaming in the Sun
you stand and stare - I have you stunned

Amazing fair with my proud stance
you know you cannot pass me with one glance

For a Black Copper Maran is what I am
and if you don't like it - I don't give a d"#*

(Okay, well they seem so proud and beautiful - I thought it might fit????)

Nah, some goats are meant for pets and some aren't. Our two are just way too friendly. Goof balls.

Gardens, I plant mine ON MOTHER'S DAY. That is what I like to do. The kids bring me drinks and snacks, keep me company for a bit. I buy all my veggie plants from a 95 year old guy up to road. He starts everything by seed himself in 4 tiny greenhouses. Love the guy. He's a little deaf and pretty slow moving but totally awesome to talk to. Hope I can be active when I am that age. Anyway, going out now to start measuring for the fencing. Going to be a long day. Our ground is clay and rocks. Post pounding is rough.

I just merged my 14 weekers with my big girl coop.. so far so good. They are getting pecked a bit but no blood and they are allowed to eat. Then cass is taking my mille fleur ladies tomorrow and I can move my olive eggers out of the barn. Whew! Good thing is in the sunlight I clearly think the three 14 weekers look like girls. What kind? That's a mystery.

It's warm enough today that I think I'll ditch the bowls and put up my nipple waterers! Whew!!

Hi - we just got back from visiting tgrlily and brought home 6 ameraucana chicks.

We got an awsome tour of her flock and the birds were so pretty. She has a magnificant lavender roo. We also were very impressed by her white Silkies too.

The adult Ameraucanas were so pretty and sweet, we are glad that we got some chicks.

When we got to her house, my son looked in the bin of chicks and said - awwwww, look at those cute little chicks, they are sooo cute. They were Silkies! We forgot our tinfoil hats! He succomed to thier cuteness within minutes of arriving.

The other pic is of our Buff Orpingtons. They are getting so big. Not ready for the adult pen yet, but maybe in a few weeks.

Thank you, Tgrlily.

Happy Country Hens

You are quite welcome!!! It was great meeting you & your son!

Children especially should wear tinfoil hats around silkies!!! LOL You did manage to escape without any following you home.

We put all the grow-out pen big chicks outside. The Dorkings have free range today, so I knew they'd be safe to explore. Staying close to home, but seem to be enjoying sctatching in the dirt. I have to start putting them with their own breeds, but that's always tricky. The Dorkings & Silkies are ok with it, but the Orps & Ameraucanas are not as easy going.

I still have Orps, Silkies & a few split Ameraucanas available if anyone's interested!

Hello everyone! I'm new to posting here, though not new to the site. I've been 'lurking' here and gleaning information and soaking it all up for over a few years, and finally felt like I should make an account!

I've wanted to keep chickens for some time now but living circumstances have not allowed it. Then in late 2008 we were able to purchase our first home outside of city limits. In all we have about 14 acres of land, though ~ 12 of those acres are wooded and partially swampy. I am pretty low income and so for the first two years we couldn't make the responsible financial commitments that come with starting up chickens (mostly the cost of building a coop + run) but this year I have finally saved up enough to begin! I am excited beyond belief.

I live in South-Western NY; I really wish I had time to read back through all 293 pages to see where everyone is from but I just don't have that sort of time on my hands. Anyone else from around my area?

tgrlily, East Syracuse. I estimate you are about 50 miles from us. We started with 14 hens
and 1 rooster. We have buffs, black, partritage. We would like to purchase some white
bearded Silkies. All of our are Silkies.

Do you have White Bearded Silkies for sale? Thanks Aria
