Getting chickens before the coop was built. Spent every spare minute for 6 weeks in the cold and rainy Pacific NW winter building a coop. And then after a few months wished it were bigger so spent another month in the hot blazing sun doubling the size. :barnie
Thanks. If I’ve researched correctly, I can raise the crate off of the ground. The bottom of the crate has large spaces between the wire. Should I put hardware cloth on top of it? And she stays in 24/7 for a few days?
I’ve been removing her from the nesting box, but she goes back after eating and drinking. I also didn’t know they stayed in the nesting box at night. I figured they were programmed to roost. She has become disruptive to the flock, so tomorrow she will put in the dog crate. I’m not so worried...
I have a 6 month old Speckled Sussex that’s gone broody. She took to the nesting box yesterday and hisses when I push her out. I have no roosters and she isn’t sitting on any eggs. I’ve researched on here about breaking her broodiness, but I don’t understand why one cares. What am I missing?
I posted on here when it happened the first time and it was suggested I get others like her or re-home her. I’m really happy with the size of my flock and am not ready for more just yet. I know it’s for the best, but it’s still sad. Who knew one could get so attached to chickens.
