    Pekin Hen Walking on Tippy-Toes?!?!

I have a Pekin Hen, she is approximately 4 years old. A couple of months ago I noticed that she was spending a lot of time in the nest box. I didn't really think too much about it at the time. A few weeks ago I noticed that she had started limping. I checked her out to look for any injury...

    Rooster with ducks?!?!?

They get some scratch every morning. They have layer pellets available all the time. In the afternoons I give them vegetable scraps either from the kitchen or from the garden. There's not much left in the garden now. They LOVE tomatoes so I buy tomatoes for them year round and they get some...

    Rooster with ducks?!?!?

The run is approximately 18 ft X 24 ft. They all grew up together as chicks. He was separated from the hens for a few months but he's been back with the hens for about 4 months and I'd say the pecking started about a month ago.

    Rooster with ducks?!?!?

I've got some stuff called "Pick No More" which also turns him purple. It's a very sticky ointment. I put that on him and they left him alone for a while until it wore off. Is the Blue Kote better? Does it last longer?

    Rooster with ducks?!?!?

I have a question. I cannot free-range my chickens but they are in a very nice coop with a fairly large yard where they can get out in the sunshine and scratch in the dirt, etc. I have 5 hens and 1 rooster. My rooster, named Goliath, is a Light Brahma and he is the gentlest most awesome rooster...

Stinky, Wet Duck Coop.......YUCK! Use "Sweet PDZ"?

The coop itself isn't very stinky at all. The problem area is out in their yard right in front of the water pans. I have the pans on a raised area like Dave Holderread recommends in "Storey's Guide". That has helped keep the water pans cleaner and the ground less wet, but we've had A LOT of...

Stinky, Wet Duck Coop.......YUCK! Use "Sweet PDZ"?

Really?!? They eat it? What exactly is the stuff made of? I've only just heard about it and it sounded like it might be the answer to my "stinky" issue. :) Does it help eliminate the smell?

Stinky, Wet Duck Coop.......YUCK! Use "Sweet PDZ"?

Has anyone ever used the product "Sweet PDZ Stall Refresher" in their duck coops to help eliminate odor? I've been trying to find a product to help with the moisture and smell in my duck coop as they are quite stinky at times. The information on this product says it is safe for animals and...

    Egg Eater!!!!

They don't get spinach often, usually when I buy some for the family and it starts to get a little "limp" then I give it to my ducks and chickens. It amounts to about a mouthful per duck once a month, if that much. They get kale, collards, mustard greens.....things like that almost every day...

    Egg Eater!!!!

JadeComputerGal, Thank you for your reply! I have watched all the ducks go up and down the ramp with ease, so I don't think that is an issue. I do think that it is highly likely that the opening of the coop is blocked at times and then they give up and end up laying eggs on the ground...

    Egg Eater!!!!

I have 7 hens and 2 drakes in a rather large fenced in area with a very nice, comfortable nest box/coop. I have 2 problems that I would like information/opinions/advice about. 1. Not all my hens will lay their eggs in the nest box! Every day I will find at least 1 egg laying on the ground...

    Duck Egg Mystery

I have 3 Pekin hens that are all over a year old and have been laying magnificent large white eggs almost every day. I also have 2 Pekin hens and 2 Khaki Campbell hens that are spring ducks and are just starting to lay eggs. In everything that I have read, Khaki Campbells lay white eggs...

    Help! Emergency question

Thank you so much! I went to the store and got a small "kiddie" pool and have it set up and I have him separated from the other ducks. Right now all he wants to do is stand by the fence to be near the other ducks. I'm hoping he'll settle down soon and start getting in the water!
