Yes! We are with a great agency that we love. We adopted DD through them (they are called the Independent Adoption Center) in six weeks- which was nuts but we expected a longer wait this time.
I just posted about this but our elephant pregnancy continues- ie, the wait for our second adoption. Its been a year so far and we have no way of knowing if it will be tomorrow or next year! (Sigh) So I am STILL "paper pregnant."
Anyway, the husband, the toddler, the dogs, the cats, the chickens...
What happened with us was the importance of dogs being generally obedient. Most country dogs kind of do what they want. But we put ours through the classic city slicker training with leashes or anything. Its the first and last time our dogs were on a leash!!!
But regardless, having really...
Went to a great conference for small meat producers and Dr. Temple Grandin talked about this. The choice is to slaughter horses here in the US where at least there are regulations about slaughter plants (my opinions of big ag could start a whole new thread but we'll skip that for now) where the...
This is one of my favorite things to make! I let the apple slices sit in a little lemon juice, lemon zest and sugar while I prep the rest and it gives this little tang... mmmmmmmm
This is also really good with plums, cherries, peaches, whatever!!
Ok, now I know what I am making tonight!
Well, we have officially been waiting a year for this second adoption. What is funny is how fast time has been flying. We are expanding things here on the farm! Our daughter (adopted as a newborn in '09) is thriving and glorious. We have an open adoption with her first family and want the same...
Hey y'all!
I need a little help searching the forums or directly. I am writing up a grant proposal for a mobile chicken coop and am looking for two types of plans. One is for a coop to build onto a trailer. In my case it needs to be at least 16 feet long and tall enough to stand in. Or plans for...
I feel like I should start a pool... Either a tiny egg will appear or I will hear that screen door squawk that is the first crow. I will post back when i do!
Closer to 5 months old. Maybe a better question would be how is it she is at POL when all her sisters are not. I think what throws me off is the size difference and redness of comb. Now these are from an uncontrolled hatch- just a broody mama who sat on a clutch of (mostlly) her eggs. So maybe...
Wanted to wish you good luck!
Between the infertility drugs, getting out of the Army, etc etc etc - I was a hot mess. In the last three years I have lost thirty pounds and gained a huge amount of muscle. I have been doing yoga since my babygirl (adopted in '09) was about 5 months old.
The...
Do you mean dual purpose or do you mean meat chickens? I raise Freedom Rangers for meat and love them compared to Cornish Cross. My customers LOVE them.
I have not yet found the right genetics to really have a true dual purpose breed. remember that a dual purpose breed from a hatchery is MUCH...
I am an experienced chicken farmer who usually knows who is who and what is what.
But I cannot figure this chicken out!! It is a buff plymouth rock. Its the biggest BY FAR of its siblings (six months old raised by my broody mama). It acts like a roo, has a comb that is much redder than its...
Define free range? Our flock has a 2/3 acre fenced orchard. There are only 25 chickens. So its vast. But totally free range means poultry getting into the garden which means e-coli and I don't think my customers would jive with that.
At night we lock them up in their house snug as bugs. We have...
Well we are now officially six months into this "paper pregnancy" (ie waiting to be chosen by an expectant mom to adopt her baby). Its been a strange wait. Having a toddler running around has kept me really busy which means time has flown by. But I still wonder if our baby is out there...
