After a long long struggle with internal laying, Molly is so close to death.
This morning was the first time she seemed n pain, and now at 11pm, I had just held her for two hours and thought each breath was her last.
I have never euthanized and now i feel awful that I didn't do it already...
4 year old RIR, hasnt laid an egg in weeks that i know of. Has a large softball size firm mass on one side towards her rear. I ve bathed and massaged her. She has gotten poopy butt since her bath a few days ago. I have her seprated because other hens pecking her. Her abdomen does not feel...
Hi bawkbawk, I suspect internal laying in my girl and she is starting to waste away. I ve read what I can but havent spoken to anyone about her. I can feel a very firm large mass in her and wonder if that is typical?
Also not sure when to make the call to end her suffering! Any advice? And...
Gross. No idea, but would definitely reccomend extra calcium. It can help with she'll strength but also helps with muscle tone for healthy pushing out of eggs. Good luck!
I have a 4 year old rhode island red, Molly (Ringwald), Who seems to be egg bound/ internal laying. I have given her warm baths and massages, however can feel a very firm softball size mass on one side and an egg sized mass on the other. I suppose it could also be tumourous.

thanks klf73, I don't sell eggs or birds, they are all dear "Pets who make my breakfast!"
Nothing else is new to except for the new hen, I've had my girls for 3 years.
right now i'm pumping them full of scrambled eggs and vitamins....
yes, I just introduced a single new hen to my dear beloved 5 girls.
No, the new hen does not show any symptoms of being sick, she was thoroughly examined, bathed and briefly quarantined.
4 days later my most beautiful, large healthy hen is wheezing with a honk and has clear watery eye bubbles...
Great job! It is scary to do and definitely a last resort, but I did it once too. Chickens are so amazingly tough! Be warned that bruised healing skin, depending on the breed of chicken, can look black and green. I was so scared mine had gangrene rot, but it was just bruising and he healed...

If she wants to go roost with the others at night I think that means she is not totally broody. If you do not want a broody hen it seems like it will be very good for her to roost up high with the others?
I assessed more and it looks like it is just the tippity tip of her wing! Like if you broke the 2nd joint on you pinky.
She was walking around and eating and not acting hurt. Do they have any sense of pain at all!? Tough birds!! She is just holding it at a funny angle.
I feel like amputaing...
I think my cuckoo maran fell out of her box and broke her wing. It is just the lower half of the wing, it is sticking out at a funny angle and the very tip of her wing bone is protruding through the skin a little.
Should I set the wing back in place??
Please help, this just happend a few...
She is over a year old and has had perfectly straight toes, until recently. one of her side toes is crooked now.
Do you think it broke? She walks fine and doesn't seem in pain. If it broke would it just heal on its own?
All the vitamin deficiency cases seem to apply to chicks...
