Hi, I currently have a batch of bantam/frizzle chicks and I am trying the egg carton method. This is my first hatch. They are starting to pip today and one has just hatched. There were a couple of bits stuck to the chick and it couldn't get the shell of it. We ended up using a q-tip and warm...
I live in Australia so we are in Summer right now. It is pretty hot during the day and cool at nights but definitely not cold. I figured I would have to wait a little while but not sure how many weeks. I only have the one.
Good news, I got a couple of day old bantam crosses and they are happily in there with the turkey now. All looks good so far. They straight away went over the the poult and the poult hid in the corner. lol. I checked a few minutes later and they seem fine. The chicks want to be with the...
One more question, would it be ok and would it work to put the turkey poult in with the hen and her two week old chicks at night time? Is it possible she would take it or am I better off not doing that?
Thanks so much for the response. Yes she/he (don't know yet) is by herself as I never expected to have a turkey. My friend was given some fertile eggs to put under her broody chicken and the hen hatched the baby chicks but then got off the nest. So we put the turkey egg in the incubator, but...
My baby turkey who just hatched yesterday is now under the heat lamp. I just have a few questions as I have never hatched a turkey before.
What colour are their poos supposed to be? Does a green poo seem normal at this point?
Do baby poults sleep a lot? It just lies down and puts it's...
Question - At what point can I lower the humidity in the incubator? It's just that it is really small and I have two containers in there to maintain the humidity for the hatching. There isn't much room for the chick and I am worries he might drop his head in the water.
Hello fellow Aussie and others.
Well my little turkey hatched. Here are some pics from pip to hatch which took about 8 hours total. I resisted the urge to open the incubator.
lol. Well a friend of mine went to a nursery (plant) to get some trees and they got to talking and she told the lady how she had a broody chicken, so the lady gave her some eggs, including a turkey egg. Well the chicken hatched the chicks but has since gotten off the next because a turkey egg...
Good evening Texas. I am in Queensland Australia. Yup our pen is secure. Aint nothing getting in that sucker. If a fox manages to get in there, probably deserves to get the chickens lol. I am nervous as heck about the turkey. Will be funny as having a turkey in with chickens.
I am sure I joined this once before but couldn't for the life of me log in and it didn't remember my user name so I have joined again. The reason for this is that we are hatching a turkey. Strange but true. Long story, but anyway it has pipped and we are excited. Although not too sure what...
A friend was given some fertile eggs one of which was a turkey egg. Her broody chicken hatched out the chickens and then got off the nest so we thought we would put the turkey egg in our incubator. A very small one might I add. Anyway, today we woke up to a pip. So excited but thinking now...
