I tried separating just the roosters and putting them in a cat carrier on the other side of the room. They were in the middle of fighting when I moved them, so I probably should have waited a bit to see if they stopped but they were really going at each other so I took out the Cochin and put him...
No one? I had the offending roo-baby in a cat carrier serving some time out. I've since put him back with the others and almost immediately some fighting started, but it seems to be peaceful at the moment. I'm combining both my flocks tomorrow if I'm able, so I need to know what the best course...
I have two roosters who just started fighting. They are only 6 weeks old and are both bantams. I believe one is an OEGB and the other is a white Cochin bantam. The Cochin (though slightly bigger) is definitely losing and he has blood around his bottom eyelid
All together I have 13 chickens...
Planting shrubs sounds like a great idea, but the grass you see in those photos are an optical illusion Nothing really grows back there, but I'm hoping to improve that. Part of the reason I have chickens is to help improve the soil here! I'm sure I can construct roosts in the middle somehow...
I'm not sure what that photo above is of...?
Anyway, THANK YOU for pointing out the holes in the roof. I don't know how I (or my dad) overlooked those. I would have found them the first time it rained I'm sure I think the weather is good for a few days and I'm heading off to town tomorrow, so...
We're covering the door with hardware cloth. We're leaving the glass in it, but as I mentioned in the first post, hardware cloth will be attached to the inside so the chickens can't peck at their reflections. All hardware cloth is attached with poultry staples, and for the windows, the staples...
My dad is building this for me, and he just moved it to my yard today. He was building at the neighbors and bought it over with a tractor
You can see in some photos the door leaning against the other building that will be used on the coop. We're putting hardware cloth on the inside to keep the...
I can't even imagine how I'm going to cover my run even though it really needs to be. I don't know the exact measurements, but it's made of chain link, the long sides are the really long panels you can get at lowes (they're so long I'm not sure how we're getting them from my mom's house to...
Wow, I only made it to page three or so here and had to post! I'm happy to see this thread
I consider myself agnostic-pantheist-paganish...ish
I don't believe in a personal god,and sometimes I believe ancient gods represent different energies and sometimes I don't believe in any god at all...

How much should you have to worry about bears? Where I live we have black bears that come around, but I've never heard of them tearing anything up. I did however have to postpone beekeeping this year because I couldn't afford an electric fence. Got chickens instead... Would they be...
I'm not sure this will help you, but I'm in a similar situation. My run was also a dog run made of chain link. It was left in my mother's backyard and pretty much buried in kudzo vine! At times we couldn't even see where the link was We managed to get the vines down enough to pull everything...
